I have a young pair of black masked lovebirds who laid 5 eggs on 22/10/11 which I believe to be infertile. Should I remove the eggs and let them try again or remove the nestbox and give them a rest? I do not think I have two females, as I witnessed one of the birds mounting the hen and assume only the male would do this. I have no DNA proof that they are a 'true pair', but the hen was the only bird incubating the eggs.

Unless your hen abandons the eggs, I would not do anything until 25 days after the LAST egg was laid. I would candle the eggs to see if any are showing fertile. I don't ever remove anything without doing this first. One of our members was getting ready to take apart a nest and one of the eggs hatched! If all eggs appear to be clear inside, the 25 day rule still applies.

I agree to try candling them before doing anything. I thought my hens eggs were no good. Day I went to toss them there was a baby in the nest.lol.
