Hey all, this is my new baby. It's only about fourteen weeks or so. I have owned Peach Faced Lovebirds before in the past, but this breed is new to me. Is there anything in particular that I should know about? It's only a baby as I stated earlier, so it is pretty skittish. It has been vet checked and cleared and I am also currently waiting for the sexing to return from the lab. (my baby needs a name! lol). How long will it take (and any suggestions are welcome, please) for it to become less skittish and squirmish when I go to it's cage and retrieve it? Are there any specific toys that Masked prefer?:omg:

Beautiful masked there. Masked lovies tend to be a bit more shy and skitish compares to peach-faced. None of my masked were ever tamed. But they did love flying around as long as I kept my distance. There are a few here who have tamed Masked lovies and I am sure they will chime in. I love masked lovies.

Well, the veterinarian just called me about the sexing of the lovebird. It's a female.

She's stunning! I'm not sure about the skiddish part, but I know my other lovebird who flew away about 2 months ago (hence me getting my new baby), was very scared when we got him at 5 months old. He never did "tame". He just stepped up onto my finger and hung out on my shoulder. I still loved him and miss him so much!

I agree, I have 27 peachies and 19 masked. Peachies are quick to warm to human and mean to each other while my personatus 'tolerate' my presence but also are more neutral to each other. If you want to have a tame personatus, you have to keep interacting with it since it was a baby and continue the interaction daily. Adult personatus are very skittish and i have yet manage to tame any of mine that are acquired as adults, but they know that I'm not a threat and they will let me handle their babies while they gave me the evil eye from a safe distance.
Cheers,
Lawrence
