I have 4 lovebirds and 2 nesting boxes in one cage. One of my birds is tearing long strips of paper like crazy but there is nothing in the nest box in the way of nesting. One of the other birds seems to like to feed it and I saw it tucking paper but I could not tell if it was under the wing or tail. It looked like the tail . Can anyone tell me what is going on here . Should I put them in different cages . I am new at this.

Yes, seperate cages.

2 pairs in one cage is a big no no.

Can you see that each bird is "paired up"?

What Personatus means by "big no no" is that one nesting pair can severly injure or kill the others.

They do need to be seperated.

Do you intend to breed the birds?

I would love to breed them . So much fun to watch and as I guessed I have a female because she is tucking paper under her wing . Am I correct?. Now I do not know what to do. They have a nest box and seem to be using it . Please tell me what to do now?

There are several different resources available in the resource library on the forum. There is also and breeding section with several How-To's. Perhaps you should look at those.

Keep them in seperate cages and don't breed them until you know exactly what you are doing. Breeding can be fatal to both the parents and the possible young if you go wrong. It's not something you should ever do unless you are totally prepared and have the required knowledge.

The birds need to be in condition before breeding. They need to be kept in single cages. Do lots of research on the in's and out's of breeding then when you are ready, and the birds are ready, go for it.
