So I finally was able to sit down and get a good look at Echo's leg band and learned something pretty interesting, according to the band Echo might be older than what I was told when I bought him from the pet store where I got him. If I'm reading his band right

There are the letters JAM which I'm guessing is the breeders initials? and also the letters OH which I figure means ohio since that's where I'm from.
Then there are the numbers 36 and 99, the 36 I'm guessing means that he was the 36th bird that year and the 99 means he was born in 1999.

Am I right about all of this? and also, is there a way I can find his breeder?

Oops I should have also said that JAM and the 36 where written up and down and the 99 and OH where written sideways.

You are reading the band exactly correctly. He hatched sometime in 1999 and his breeder is from Ohio. Most breeders use the proper bands when banding their babies, although I've known a few that will use whatever bands they have just to use them up. It's not an accepted practice but I've seen it done.

Well that's frustrating! I have no problem with Echo being that old, but that's quite a big difference from what the man at the store said, I know I won't be going there again.

From what he had said Echo would have been almost 1 not almost 13.
