Ok, so as some of you know, Gigi did not fare well in my dorm and just screamed 24/7. He was not happy so I took him back home to live with his parents.

Now I am moving into a new, more permanent home. It's a 3 bedroom house. I will have one roommate. My question is, what would be the best way to comfortably move him? Should I just move myself down there first and have everything set up and well before moving him?

Also would it be better to keep him in my bedroom first, or keep him in the living room? I would like him in the living room since it is a much more sociable place, but perhaps a smaller room will make him feel more safe?

Should I cover the cage some at first to make him feel more secure? I just have about a thousand questions, and just want to make him comfortable and happy.

Congratulations on your upcoming move! Hopefully, this will be better for Gigi.

Personally, I would probably set everything up first and then take Gigi. Since he tends to be a bit skiddish in new situations, seeing everything waiting for him will probably be best for him in the long run. As for location, how does your roommate feel about birds? Cats/dogs are one thing, but not all people are bird people. You also have the question of how Gigi will take to the new roommate. He didn't care for the one in the dorm so it may be just a matter of wait and see. Living room is always preferrable to me but it may be too stressful for him. Cover the cage or not? Play it by ear and see how he reacts.....

Glad to hear you've got the opportunity to move into a larger home. Hope all works out well! .. When I moved last January, my lovebirds were about the last to bring along. .. For them, and me, it seemed better to have everything in place and ready ahead of time. .. One thing I can say is, they definitely sensed things were going to change, for it was as though they were making it clear I was not going to leave them behind :omg:! ... As for cage location, mine prefer front row seating in the livingroom. How dare they miss out on anything, even if that is a product of my own conjecture. .. Cage covers might help ease the transition, if anything, during travel, but then again, both my lovebirds have no problem sharing the joys of a scenic route....to the vets. .. Hows your roomate feel about everything? ............:)

Gigi enjoys traveling alot. All he does is make happy bird chirps on long drives, and it makes him sleepy :rotfl My new roommate has no problem with birds. She runs cross country so she will be out the door before he is awake, and probably home when he is asleep. So her contact with him will probably be minimal. I was glad to hear she was not terrified of birds, I know way too many people that are! As long as we keep his area clean, she is fine.

I think because I will be in and out so much that first week, the best thing would be to take him down after everything is set up. As for living room vs bedroom, I'm not sure yet. In my house, Gigi sleeps in my room, and hangs out in the living room all day.

I would just make sure that your roomate knows that anything with fumes or strong smells are not allowed around birds, air fresheners, nail polish, things like that, need to be used in another room, and also the dangers of cooking and teflon pans. I hope Gigi likes the new place!

We had a meeting, and informed her of all those things. she has her own bathroom in the masters bedroom. So any hairspray or nailpolish fumes should be well enough away! And thanks! I hope he does too!
