Just saw this on CL:
http://boston.craigslist.org/nos/pet/2850119896.html
This is about 45 minutes away from me. The perfect age bird, same age as Jitterbug, and a male....just dont know if he is tame. I really would prefer one that is at least used to being handled, and not totally wild. I emailed about him...we'll see!

Heard back, and he is "semi tame"....friendly, curious about people, but not crazy about being held. His mate died about six months ago and he's been alone since. They had two clutches together. She is going to trim his wings and work with him until Friday, when we meet up. Im hoping to bring him home with me...just sounds like a good match for Jitterbug...3 years old, dna'd male, and cute! :) Anyone know his mutation, from the photo? Is he a dutch blue? Seagreen? I hope they get along good!!

Is there any particular reason he is being sold/given away? I didn't like the line about him being the perfect Valentines day gift. I mean, I was joking with my husband about getting the chick today because a lovebird would be a good Valentine's day gift, but I was joking. I probably won't get a chick till the beginning of March.

She said his mate died 6 months ago, and he is now alone, and seems lonely. She thinks he'd do best with a friend. Should I be concerned? :(

Sounds like a good possibility, Judi!
Mutation looks like an AquaTurquoise (Seagreen). Hopefully, this will work out for everyone! :)

But when the posting was made, did he/she specify going to a home that already had another bird?
They may just be sick of him, which is fine, I guess. The ad just didn't come across as someone concerned for their bird's happiness. You've actually spoken to them, though. You would have a better impression than me. Heck, I'm getting my bird from a pet shop. You're taking in an unwanted bird. Even if it has some issues, that's something you can work through. But DO try to find out what happened to the mate, that it wasn't an illness or anything, and DO meet the bird before making a decision.

She is a breeder, I think, and just isnt planning on breeding him anymore. He and his mate had two clutches and then, his mate died. She said he is nice, but she doesnt really have the time to work with him and give him one on one attention. She sounded honest and knowledgeable. She told me how to slowly introduce the two birds to make sure they dont hurt each other in the process of getting to know each other. and, she said if it didnt work out for whatever reason, she would take him back. I didnt get the impression that she doesnt care, but more that she is doing what she thinks would be best for him? I could be wrong. I should have a better idea after meeting her, but thanks for the heads up...I'll be cautious, and make sure I ask more questions before committing. :)
