Ditto's hormones appear to have kicked into high gear ( a few months later than normal but oh well) and he's one wound up birdy. Normally when I clean his cage he'll hang out with me. Hanging out on my shoulder while i scrub perches in the bathtub. Not today, he spent the entire time flying between me and the cage. He didn't even stop to land on my shoulder, just fly in to the bathroom make a u-turn and fly right back.
once it came time to clean the cage itself he didn't hang out with me either. I had swung the water dish outside the cage so it was out of the way and he decided he wasn't going to wait for his bath. Normally he'll take a bath in my hands under a trickle of water in the sink after cage cleaning. Or he waits untils the cage is back to gether and he gets fresh water (after washing the water bowl with dishes). Not today, while I was scrubbing inside the cage, he was in the water dish hanging outside the cage making a royal mess.
The little bugger has also chewed all his nutriberries and avicakes into crumbs and is eating some, running around, eating some more etc...
Do they make birdy valium? :lol I'm getting exhausted just watching him.

Even he couldn't keep that up forever. HE settled down for a 2 hour nap. Woke up and wandered around and is napping again. Soon time to come out for veggies though.

I'm trying an experiment. Last night he carried all his avicakes and nutriberries up to the veggie bowl and made crumbs out of them. Little bugger wasted a whole bowl of food that way. So I switched locations. Veggies in the lower bowl and avi-cakes/nutriberries in the upper one. I tried this last time he did that mess trick and all he did was carry veggies up top so we'll see what happens. Can't have veggie scraps stay in the regular bowl or they'll get nasty and make him sick.
After he woke up from his nap he spent 45 minutes foraging in the crumbs he made out of the food I put in there shortly before bedtime last night. Once he was done I changed it out. Most of the mess was avicakes. The nutriberries he ate and there were only 5 half berries left. Ok put in fewer avi-cakes and see what he does. Now he seems to be eating like a civilized birdy again.
By the way, avicakes when they're chewed up as crumbs take up much more room in the bowl than when they're whole. There looked like there was more food in the bowl than when I put it in last night. :omg:

Ditto makes messes too (he is a parrot after all) but he's not usually that bad. He acutally likes the colorful stuff. His pellets that he eats for snacks and to make sure he gets enough vitamins are yellow, orange and green. He won't eat the green ones unless it's dark and he can't see what color they are. He'll pick out all the orange and yellow ones to eat first. :lol I have no idea why he won't eat the green ones since they're all the same and he loves peas. the pellets are round and pea sized.
He turned 9 in february and hasn't slowed down one bit.

Wow nine years old and still as hyper as a baby!
Peek-a-boo is only three months old and as I type this from my iPod touch he is perched on top of it chewing on its leather case he has already made a million little bite marks.
That's funny that he dosent eat the green pellets peek-a-boo will only taste the red ones. :)

Well he discovered a drawback in his decision to chew all the nutriberries to crumbs. He can't fly back to the cage when we're on the couch watching tv and fly back with it to eat out of my hand. :lol
He had to dig around for awhile to find one (well 3/4 of one) and flew back with that. And if I had any concernes that he wasn't going ot eat all of it, I don't anymore. There was only a tiny bit of dust left after he was done.:clap
