Ever since we got back from the vet on Saturday Ditto has decided it would be cool to chew all his avicakes and nutriberries into crumbs. It started saturday night when he carried every avi-cake one by one to the veggie bowl and chewed them to bits. Then he started on the nutriberries. That night when we were on the couch watching tv he went to the cage, grabbed one of the remaining berries and brought it back to eat from my hand which is his normal routine. that one he ate normally and left nothing but dust.

So the next day I switched locations for the food bowls. put the veggies in the lower spot and avi-cakes / nutriberries up top in his favorite spot. Ok he left them in that bowl but chewed them to bits in place. And refused to go down to eat the veggies. that night he again ate an entire avi-cake to dust in my hand.

On monday I left the crumbs and 2 nutriberries that he left from the night before and went to work. He ate some crumbs and the remaining berries were eaten or turned to crumbs. and he was eating some when I got home. I gave him fresh stuff and watched him eat. He sat there eating normally and then went for his evening nap and all looked well in the bowl. After his nap he again ate normally although ignoring the veggies below and when I wasn't looking boom..... turned everything to crumbs. I switched bowls after tv time and he ate veggies.

Repeat the samething tuesday and wednesday with the exception that I added 2 el-paso nutriberries that he's been refusing to eat for few weeks. Last night the el-paso's were the only whole pieces left so he brought one to the couch and ate that almost to dust.

Today I watched him again after putting his food in. Eating like a civilized birdy and did so for about 20 minutes and after he was done I looked at the bowl and there are almost no crumbs in there. I'll bet that by the end ofthe night they'll all be chewed to bits again.

And he's sitting right here on my hand watching me type this and probably reading it and laughing his little feather butt off at me.

Right after I finished typing this he got some skritches and decided to snooze so I put him back in the cage for a bit since it's hard to type with a snoozing lovie in your hand and guess what. Now he's wound up and eating like a wild lovie and making crumbs.

And boom. Someone flipped the sanity switch. He ate like a sane bird again. There are still plenty of whole bits left and far fewer crumbs. When I let him out I switched the food bowls back. veggies up top and nutriberries below. When he went back in he took one avicake to the veggie bowl and ate it without crumbling it to bits.

Of course before I switched them he went back to his old habit, dropping avi-cakes into the water dish. >:

Seems he's doing a much better job of watching you than you are of him. .. Does he have eye's in back of his head? .. Having one on each side of his head is probably close enough! .. You know, there's no way I can type with two hands until at least 8PM. Not only that, but because of two jealous lovebirds, I must alternate between the left and right. .. If only I had three hands, it would be a perfect world for two spoiled lovebirds. ..........:(

Yeah, he knows exactly what he's doing. And it works everytime. :lol

If you had 3 hands, you have to get a 3rd lovebird.

Ditto usually perches on my thumb and watches me type. That's fine until he decides it's time for a nap. He gets mad when his perch keeps moving while he's trying to sleep.

Thank gosh for pinky fingers. I think.... A third lovebird? If I could find one locally around the same age for Beebers, I might just consider. .. He's about 11 right now. .. We've shared so far three unsuccessful attempt at pairing him up, with none of us sure exactly why the other, male or female, wouldn't except him.

Well I got home today and say a bunch of crumbs again. But it was avi-cakes. He seems to have decided he doesn't like the gooey outside of the pellet bits. So he hulls them like seeds. Eats the inside of the pellets and leaves the messy outside. :rotfl That takes up more space than all the food that was origionally in the bowl.

There were 4 partial veggie berries and he didn't touch the el-paso's.

Tonight I put the bowls in their normal spot. Veggies up top and nutriberries down below. He followed the food dish into the cage like always and so far has stayed down below to eat and hasn't carried anything up top. He'll wait to do that until I'm not looking. :lol

And once again, he ate an entire avi-cake (it was bigger than his head) out of my hand and left nothing but dust. But in the food bowl? There he'll make a right old mess with crumbs.

Although, knock on wood, tonight he ate normal and the two nutriberrieshe took to the veggie bowl actually got eaten along with the veggies.

Maybe I should make a fake hand and put it in the cage. Think that would fool him? Yeah right.:rotfl

I have a random, unrelated question. Where do you purchase all your little snacks? We don't have a petstore, so I'm trying to find somewhere online that doesn't charge an arm and a leg for shipping :)
Thank you :)

I get Ditto's food from petsmart unless they're out of it. Then I'll order it online from thatpetplace.com.

I just checked and they charge $8.99 for shipping but avi-cakes are only 3.99 instead of $7 at petsmart. Order a couple of items and the shipping is cancelled out by the lower price.

They're only 20 miles from me so I could drive down there but at over 4 dollars a gallon for gas and my cars not being exactly frugal on gas, shipping is probably cheaper.

Keeping this post on topic, Ditto is back to his normal self. Still hyper but not a little mainiac. He did however get mad at me today. He settled down for his afternoon nap at 1pm and didn't appreciate me going berzerk during the flyers game!

I agree with Dave's assessment of shipping. Many times, I will see something on sale online that I use so I order extra for the price break.

He's turning into a little night owl. It was cloudy and raining most of the week so he probably snoozed most of the day while I was at work. Each night this week he seemed less interested in going to bed after his light shut off. Last night it took almost 5 minutes of him standing in front of his happy hut looking around before he finally went in. At 1:30am he came out and started playing with his toys and wouldn't go back in for about 20 minutes. I fell asleep on the couch and at woke up at 2:30 only to hear him climbing back across the cage to go back to bed again. When I came down at 8am he was already up and calling me to uncover him and he was running around playing with everything in sight all day. He didn't even take his afternoon nap.

Now that it's 4pm he finally settled down for a little nap. Normally he'll snoozea bit right after noon then play a bit and relax. Not today. I guess he's had enough sleep for the week.

well fortunately he tired himself out yesterday with all his activity. Slept like a rock last night and was back to his afternoon naps today.
