i would like to have two lovebirds and have a cage for each so they can bond with me. Does anyone know if this can be a problem for the two lovebirds because they cannot be in the same cage together? Someone told me they get MEAN because they want to be with the other Lovebird. I have my eye on a second one, but after I heard this, I am not sure this will work. HELP! CAN ANYONE GIVE ME SOME TIPS, OR HAS ANYONE HAD THIS EXPERIENCE. I would like to know before I get a second one. Thank you. Joanne

Hi Joanne,
How you house your lovebirds will depend on genders. Two males can normally live together with no problems. Male/female can also be kept together. Problems can arise when you put 2 hens in the same cage. Hens can be aggressive with each other and you might not have any choice but to house them side by side.
To answer your question about housing them separately, even if they get along, it can be done but lovebirds are very social and really need the interaction of other lovebirds if possible. Some individuals prefer being by themselves (I have a few like that) but most enjoy company. Just because you have 2 wouldn't mean they would be friendly to each other and exclude you. How you fit into the flock depends on the amount of interacting you do with them. I have several who have cagemates and yet they love to have out of cage time with me.
