This'd be our whiteface cobalt lovie baby- around 10-11 weeks old. I think he was unsure of his new surroundings for maybe 1/2 day- the day we brought him home, but the next day he started in with making the place his own, LOL- including letting the parrotlet know he's the boss ( she's not sure).
He's pretty vocal. He seems to have quite a repertoire of whistles, chirps, trills, and he'll keep them going for quite a while once he gets going. What's funny is that I could swear he's doing his imitations of the birds he heard in the pet store while he was there- I hear parakeets, a trill that sounds like a canary, and other sounds I guess he's just made up. He even seems to imitate the sounds that Pixie ( the parrotlet) makes when she's happy- he chimes in when she does- just louder like he's turning up the volume so we can hear them.
I recall our Sweetpea ( girl bird) had a number of whistles and calls too- some of which I'm sure were imitations of things she heard and liked, but I don't remember that she imitated other birds or did it as often as it seems as though Loki does.
Just wondering what kinds of sounds y'all's lovies make?

Awww...that's so sweet! Me female, who says a few phrases, has also recently begun mimicing sounds too. One is the answering machine long beep, the other one, i realized just recently what it was, mimics the sound we make when we're tinkling :omg:
I wonder if Loki recognizes Pixie's chirps from the shop :)

Wow, a female lovie who says some things! Guess I was wrong to assume it was the males who did that, eh? Love it when they imitate the sounds they hear- and "tinkling", LOLOL!
I know our Sweetpea imitated phones ringing ( I think that's what it was), you just never know what they'll take a fancy to and just have to make that sound their own.
I'd say that it's likely Loki heard Pixie chirpling along in the pet store, if she did it there. She's not doing it a whole lot here, but when she does, he seems to go right along with her. But he's doing chirps, whistles, and gribbles a lot, even when she isn't. Her chirps and so on are so soft though, I'd wonder how he can hear her!

LOL, I've heard lovies f@rting, but I can't say I ever heard one snore! That must be funny with a lovie who sounds like a mockingbird- calling back and forth with the outside birds,
Our tiel talks and whistles like that too- he hasn't managed to get our ring tones into his repertoire, though, I must say. So we are safe knowing that if we hear them it's really the phone!

I know! She never used to mimic much. It was only after losing my other hen, Nefeli, who did a lot of talking, that Lucy began talking. And more recently, mimicing. Actually, its the females who are more likely to talk and not the males. One other thing Lucy mimics is me sneezing :lol. It was my brother who pointed it out. I kept wondering what it was. One day he asks me, "do the birds sneeze like people do?" Because he was hearing sneezes from the birds. And then she did it and he said that was the noise. I would often hear her doing it but couldn't figure out what she was trying to vocalize. But that was it exactly! Ha!
And the tinkling...well, I figured that out because I had to go one day and she was out and on me clinging like usual. So when I started tinkling, she started to make the sound that I kept wondering what in the world it was. I thought I was going to die laughing. Too funny.
You'll have to post a YouTube of them playing :D Besides, all we saw was Loki's tail end with his head down in the food pile :lol

Wow,I didn't know it was the female lovies who tend to mimic- but it sure sounds like Loki here's doing just that! Of course we aren't sure if Loki's male or female, but I just have a feeling he's male, guess we will see. Right now, both Pixie and Loki are chirping and vocalizing something or other. And it sure sounds like Loki's trying to imitate her chirps, in addition to his own.
LOL,I'll have to take a better picture of Loki and download it to the site!

Yes! Pictures :D I love seeing everyone's babies. And you have baby babies :) Well, young un's anyway. Males probably mimic also, but when it comes to actual words and phrases, it's most always the females. Not that most females talk but if there is talking, it's the hens. Ha! Imagine that, the girlies doing all the talkin :happy:That's probably why the boys just mimic, they are makin fun of the girls and grunting!!!
