We feed outside birds also and as a consequence we have tons of millet taking over my garden (yup at one point this summer I decided it was easier to ignore it all rather than cutting it back).

Do you think this would be safe to feed to Noodlehead? Is there something I should do (besides thoroughly washing it ofcourse) before I let Noodle at it? Do lovebirds like fresh millet or should I let it dry out? If dried out do I leave it where it is on the plant? or cut it back and dry it out inside (we have a food dehydrator so I would use that to dry it out)?

Has anyone else grown their own millet??

thanks in advance

Far as I know, most people who grow millet allow it to dry out before harvesting. .. I see no reason though of why you couldn't harvest it while green, then hang dry or use a dehydrator. I've also read you can oven toast it. .. As for raw millet, although i've never heard of anyone offering it yet, I can't see any harm unless its somehow contaminated with pesticides or some other chemical. .. Maybe someone else will chirp in here .............:)
