Anyone who knows me can tell you that I have a lot of lovebirds, mostly breeders that I currently have on breeder rest! However, as I take care of everyone, I take that extra couple of seconds to really look at each cage and each bird I have.
This morning, as I was feeding my lanai aviary, I noticed one of my lovebirds was just sitting in his coconut shell swing, seemingly holding onto the chain used to suspend the shell. It all looked perfectly normal until I reached in to get the food dish and he didn't move from the position he was in, which isn't normal! Come to find out, somehow he got the tip of his beak wedged into one of the chain links and couldn't get loose. :( The chain links are small and this is not something I would expect to see even if the toy were in a parakeet or parrotlet cage.
It took a bit of care to get him loose but after that, he headed straight for the water dish and then the food dish. He'll be fine but it's my best guess that he spent the night in the shell swing rather than on a perch........
Leave it to a lovebird!!!!!
