Last night wile we were hanging out on the couch I noticed some feathers around Dittos vent that appeared in the dim light to be red! :omg::omg::omg:

Of course he must have planned that because as soon as I saw it he flew off and played on his gym and wouldn't let me see his underside. He knows when I want to see something and will do everything he can to keep that area out of view. So I went to the kitchen to start making water for tea (don't worry, he goes back in the cage before the water gets hot) and he of course followed me and perched on my arm. once the pot was on the stove he moved to my hand and I managed to raise him up and get a look. Well they weren't red they looked more orange. Once he went in the cage and started eating I could see a line of orange from his tail, going up across his vent to about 3/4 of an inch above it. Ok what in his cage is that color......

Didn't take long to find it. His knotrageous toy has 2 blocks that color and I noticed him sitting/hanging on those earlier in the day and they'd be right in the area where the orange feathers are. :rotfl

Sneaky little devil, just wants to make sure I'm paying attention....

Ditto should know better by now than to think dad's not watching!!!!! Amazing where coloring from just about anything can find itself on the body of a lovie!!! :lol

Having a bright yellow lovie is like having a black car, they show every little thing that gets on them! :rotfl

Yup, my Boss girl was a lutino cockatiel and EVERYthing showed up on her feathers! especially when somebirdy pooped on her from above!
Pip's the same way......they do know when you're trying to get a good at look at something on them and take off! Glad Ditto is fine and it's just from his toy!

Well if it was red I'd be worried. But it's orange so blood it isn't. His poops are fine, he's fine and eating like a little horse. So either he took a bath and perched on the toy or just the dampness this weekend ( it feels like Miami up here) caused the color to rub off.

By the way, yesterday it looked like most of it was gone and now the stripes of orange go sideways instead of from tail to tummy.

It's not the first time he caused me to panic from toy dye. He used to love to take a bath and rub his head on red blocks. He gave it away the next time when he instead used a blue block to stripe his head.:lol

I did manage to get a look when I got home and the orange spot was down to one orange feather.

He decided to take a bath in the sink so now you know he's going to go rub all over the thing and turn into a rainbow!

I'm smarter than that though. I put fresh food in when he went in so that should keep him busy til he dries off a bit. :lol

That's so funny. Gem did the same thing to me when I first started getting him these vegetable dyed birdie blocks. He would take a bath then start pushing the blocks around his cage with his head and getting all these colored spots on his brow. Wish I had taken a picture... there was one day it looked like someone took a bunch of magic markers to his face.

Tie Died Birdies!!:rotfl

Yup, that's about what it looked like. :clap

Gem didn't have his peach brow yet, so it was a green head with grey checks covered with red, orange, blue and yellow spots. It was definitely a sight. Not quite as funny as how he's decided to start sleeping recently, but definitely noteworthy. If I can get a picture of him sleeping on his rope ring toy, I'll post it, but he usually wakes up and moves before I can get a good shot

Okay, I promised a pic of Gem on his rope swing. I woke him up in the process of taking the pictures so he wasn't exactly thrilled with me. But what you see is how the little bugger sleeps, right with his head tucked up in the little danglies up top.

Nice. I'm not sure how Gem manages to stay upright when he's sleeping up in his toy... and it doesn't look all that comfortable, but he sure likes it. What is it with Ditto and Gem and sticking their heads in odd places?
