So i come home after work (4 to 12:30 am sighhh) i find out that Shady - our 2 month love bird....flew out of the house!!!!...my mom said she was looking for him after tht for almost 2 hrs... Eventually she found him flying from tree to tree in our neighbour hood and he did come to her when she called him....she scolded him and he was quite for the rest of the day....
But the next hes looking outside and sees the other birds... he started making a lot of noise going from window to window and then flying towards me pulling at my collar flying from window back to me n so forth...obviously he wanted to go outside and chat/play with the rest....I dont Know wat to do in this situation !!!! he doing thid for 3 days now
Today I put him in a cage and put the cage outside...the moment i left him alone there all the sparrows n small birds came down around him and there was a huge racket outside my house lol.... again obviously he wanted to outside the cage and playing chatting with the rest...
Again wat should i do....cant leave him in the open cuz he will fly away..we were lucky once..

Hi, wow you were really lucky! You should be careful about leaving the little one in a cage outside too. Predators could take opportunity in this situation as well. I'm sure others will offer their advice as well.

I'm with Barb on this one in that you were indeed very lucky not to have lost Shady forever. And leaving him outdoors, even briefly unattended, risks having him pulled through the cage bars by an unexpected predator. Cats for instance, will stalk a lone bird. The moment you walk away, Shady could suddenly become a target. Hawks are also adept at killing through the bars, especially if a caged bird attempts to defend its home from the inside. Snakes, dogs, and yes, even us humans. Bird theft, in fact, is far more common than we'd like to think.
I take my lovebird B.B. outside as often as I can, which considering weather and work schedule, isn't really all that often. Even though he's in a very secured cage, I still make it a point never to leave him unattended, not even for a minute! .. As for Shady's interest in the local wildlife, my lovebird pretty well reacts the same way, especially when he spots little sparrows picking grub right below our patio door. Ya gotta wonder though, how this flying from room to room activity compares to the amount of exercise a parrot would get if it were in the wild. Certainly no where near, however, it is most definitely a lot safer for a companion bird.
Final note: Make sure Shady doesn't suddenly figure out how to chew through a window screen. ..seriously. .........:omg:

I'm going to echo what others have said: you are very lucky Shady came back when called. I lost a bird when I was young because my dad left the cage open, then went outside and left the patio door open. I came home from swimming lessons to an empty cage and my Dad telling me Joey had died (I heard my mom yelling at him that night, which is how I learned the truth). We saw Joey around the house for a couple of days, tried leaving food for him and tempting him back into his cage, but he never came back. I would have felt better had he actually died in the cage than knowing he escaped and it could have been prevented.
As far as harmless-not-going-to-eat-Shady birds, I live next to a highway and a pair of birds has nested on the overhead sign outside our spare room window every year since we have lived here. Gem, my lovebird, has become great friends with them, so I move his cage next to the open window for much of the day. The wild birds come over to the windowsill to talk with Gem, as well as my husband and myself. There is still a cage and the window screen between them, so I don't worry too much.
When the weather is inappropriate to open the window next to gem, I play bird songs that I find on YouTube. Gem will talk to them for hours.

Thanks guys.........i will keep the safety in mind....probably take him out in our backyard and sit at a distance far enough for birds to show and close enough to act when needed...
Window Screes is double but i will see that he dosent chew...:)
