I have six black masked lovebird chicks between seven and eight weeks old, they are housed in the same breeding cage as their parents. They all retreat to the nest box when disturbed, but they are in very good health and the adult birds show no sign of aggression towards them. This is my first experience of breeding lovebirds and would like advice on what is the best time to remove them from the breeding cage and put them in a cage of their own. Books I have read appear to be ambiguous as to what age you should or can separate them from their parents (when not been hand reared) to give them more space to 'spread their wings'. Also what is the best age for them to go to their new homes (I am keeping one pair and giving the other four birds to relatives. I intend to give the parents a rest from breeding and want to remove the nest box from their cage as soon as possible.
