I was wondering, do lovebirds get depressed when they're moulting? Max is going through a moult and he's lost quite a few feathers (mostly down and back…no flight feathers yet). He's a lot quieter than normal and puffed up a bit more than usual. His appetite is still there and when he's out of the cage he doesn't want to go back in..just wants to stay on my hands or close to my hands. He's a lot more subdued than he usually is. Is this normal?

I'd say so. I notice a personality change in my birds during moults as well. Bailey becomes a bit cranky and much more easily frustrated (I'm pretty sure this bird thinks she's a human, and becomes frustrated at the limitations her bird-body presents). Boco is just more cuddly and accepting of scritches. I think all birds handle moults (and other things!) differently. As long as everything else remains normal, I'd assume it's just the moult. It can take a lot out of them :)
