I have two peach-faced lovebirds, Gully and Fern, age unknown. (It's complicated.) I let them fly around my room on a regular basis. In my room are several shelves are bolted to the walls, and on one of the shelves is an old stuffed animal in a cup that my sister got at a fair when she was little. Today I noticed something odd. Fern appeared to be dancing on the head of the animal and when I looked closer I noticed that she was rubbing her bottom all over the head of the stuffed animal. (A cat, by the way.) Gully, my other bird, didn't like that very much and every time he(?) caught her(?) at it would fly over screeching and making a sound I can only describe as a hiss. Each time, Fern stopped. A little while later, she'd begin again. Now, while I found it funny as heck and was practically doubled over laughing at the sight, in retrospect I'm slightly concerned. Is this behavior something I need to be worried about?

Nope! Male lovebirds often "hump" toys and other objects. My male has a favorite toy in his cage. I've never heard of this behaviour upsetting another resident bird, but who knows? As long as they're not fighting or hurting each other, I think all is well :) I wouldn't be worried.

Males engage in self-satisfaction and I've had proven hens do the same thing..... I agree, As long as there's no fighting, I wouldn't do anything. It's normal.
