His old hut was getting a bit messy so I gave him a new one. That went over about as well as the last time I changed it, that is to say, badly.

He was ok during the day for the most part. I put it in during cage cleaining time while he was taking a bath. After he went back in the cage he climbed all over it and went inside and bounced around to start breaking it in. He even hung out in there for a bit with his little head peeking out looking comfy. He didn't nap in it yesterday but stood on the perch in front of it.

Well everything changed when the lights went out. He went over to it like normal then jumped in, so far, so good. A few seconds later he crawled out the back, over the top and went back in the front. Back out the front, climb around the cage and go in the back.

He stayed in this time so I covered him up and went to the couch. 30 seconds later he climbed out and hung out on the boing.

Last time I changed his happy hut he refused to sleep in it for years so I put the old one back in. He had to check it out first running in and out but eventually climbed in to sleep and stayed there all night.

I can change just about anything in the cage but don't touch the hut!

I gotta side with Ditto on this one! I don't like my bed being changed, either, unless it's my own choice!!!! :rotfl I've found that parrots are creatures of habit and many just like the same things around, as they've become comfortable with them. Thank God Ditto isn't an Amazon! If you think Ditto is bad, try living with Monty or Alex!

I suspected this was going to happen which is why I kept the old hut handy to put back in.

Last time I didn't have a choice, he chewed through the strap that held it up. The one that's in there now is the one he refused to sleep in. He only started sleeping in it after he got sick during his first string incident and I'm not about to let him eat any more string just to get him to use the new hut.

That last one broke just as he was getting in it to go to bed so he had no time to get used to it. I was hoping that putting putting this one in early in the day would give him time to get used to it and break it in a bit. Obvously he had other ideas.

Fortunately the old one is still in good shape, it just needs a good cleaning. I guess I'll have to ease the new one into service, putting it in during the day so he can bounce around in it and break it in, then putting the old one back in before bed time.
