View Full Version : Ditto is making a mess of himself...

He's somehow managed to get regurgitated gunk on top of his head. It goes from one cheek and across the top of his head. Not like he vomited and flung it and there's nothing on the cage bars or walls or anything. It seems he's decided to feed something then use the same object for head scritches. >:

And he refuses to take a bath to clean himself up. He only takes a bath when he wants to. Tonight while I was filling his food dish he stood on my arm and fluffed up like he wanted a bath but when I turned the water to a trickle for him he changed his mind and went for food! >:>:

He's eating fine, 8-10 grams plus veggies per day, poops are perfect and he's acting like his normal little self. He did this over the summer too and we went to the vet and he was fine.

I remember reading the post of Ditto doing this in the summer and if I remember correctly, you spray showered him which he wasn't too happy about...lol

Could he have eaten something that bothered his tummy?

Doubt it. He does it every day (the regurgitation) after he wakes up for his afternoon nap, right before dinner. He hasn't even eaten much when he does it. Then he comes out and we get his food ready and he follows the food into the cage. He then eats and runs up to try and feed a toy and goes back to the food. He'll do that for a few minutes, then eat, then have a short after dinner nap, then eat like a little flying horse! He just doesn't usually get it all over his head in the process.

I came home today and he had no gunk on himself but he started feeding his toys again. When I looked back at him 2 minutes later he had it on top of his head again. Nowhere else, just on top of his head.

I did manage to wipe his head with a damp paper towel but he was not at all happy about it. As soon as I let him go he made a beeline for the cage and gave me the sink eye.:evil:

That didn't last very long. As soon as the nutriberry bag came into site he was back on my shoulder (trying to feed my shirt collar).

His weight is still good. The scale was flipping between 46 and 47 grams when he stepped on it which is a gram or so lighter than normal but he stepped on it while I was filling it this morning as soon as he woke up and was the same 48 grams he always weighs in the morning. His food dish was also 5 grams lighter when I got home.

January is historically homone time for him so I'm sure it's just behavioral. But that doesn't mean I have to like him being gunky!

Lol...he's quite the little character :)

As long as he's healthy that's all that matters. He's just going to be a little ticked off at you whenever you wipe off his little forehead...lol. The good thing is lovebirds don't hold grudges, so all is good :)

Now that the heat is working in the house a lot, Maxs feet get really dry. He gets mad when I put olive oil on his feet as a moisturizer. After he's over being mad, he licks my finger and his feet of the olive oil....he loves it! Never hold a grudge.

He went in the cage and ate for an hour and a half. Then he came over for some scritches. Nope, no grudges. Can't hold a grudge when there's scritches to be had!

Maybe he's just trying to tell you he wants a hat?
