i am thinking about getting a large walk in aviary for all my lovebirds but i am not sure if this will work,
the situation is , i have 18 lovies and 6 cages, the mom and dad are brother and sister which i didn't know when i got them,(they were supposed to be brothers) all the others (except one) are their babies,
since they are related i don't want their babies to mate so i dna them and but the boys with the boys and the girls with the girls, except the last two because there is an uneven number !!!
cage 1- 4 boys paired up
cage 2- 6 boys paired up
cage 3- 4 girls paired up
cage 4- 1 boy
cage 5 -1 girl
cage 6-mom and dad
if i put all the paired up ones in an aviary do you think they would stay paired up as they are or change to boy /girl and then i would have a problem. i know it is a strange question but needs to be asked lol:roll:

In flight aviaries such as you are talking about, paired/bonded lovebirds tend to stay together. Your single male and female would most likely form another pair if they like each other. One thing to remember when you set up flights. Once all birds are in the flight, there can be no additions. You can remove pairs or singletons that have no companion, but the flight is closed to new additions.

This is the way it normally works. Keep in mind there can always be exceptions.:)

ok thanks, i defiantly would not be getting any more lovebirds to add to the aviary
, there may be some born into the aviary, but then i have to worry about male/ female bonding since the mom/dad are brother/sister, unless i hard boil and replace any new eggs and keep the single male/ female by themselves.........

I see that you live in Canada. Will you be able to make the aviary warm enough for them in the winter? Or would you need to bring them back into the house when it is winter? That is something to think about also.
