What would you say is the average life span of a lovebird? I've read they live anywhere between 10-20 years. I guess this figure is based on how well they're cared for, but speaking from experience, can someone give a more specific answer?

I don't think there is a more specific answer than what you've read. What I've read it that with good care and diet, 15 years is average but I know that Linda has a few that are well over that mark. 18 or 19 I think. My boy is around 9 or 10 (adopted two years ago so we aren't sure) and he was not given a decent diet....seed only. He was also exposed to harmful household items many times before we got him BUT he is a survivor and other than being a little on the thin side (44 grams) the vet tells me that he is very healthy as far as she can tell by his exams. I've worked on his diet and have managed to add broccoli and birdie bread and a few other things but nothing but seed on a regular basis.

I've had my oldest pair of Peachfaced Lovebirds since 1990 and they were breeder age at that time. That makes them roughly 16 yrs. Both are in good health. In fact, Sunset, the male, just successfully underwent surgery to remove a fatty tumor from his abdomen. My vet remarked that both are aging wonderfully. The female loves nothing more than to shred any paper she can get her beak on and she will still solicit.... :)
A number of the remainder of my flock are around 12. You're right. A lot depends on care.
