Hey everyone!!:rofl: glad i finally joined a form where i can talk and share things about mine and your birds :)
So i've got a few questions to ask about Petrie;
1. Age: i've had him ( i think/hope he's a him ...:omg:) about 4 weeks now, the breeder said he was 10 weeks when i got him, but the vet said they think he's older than that ... he had a tiny spec of black on the tip of his top beak and he still has a white face (green body, blue tail/bum)
he's a little bit uncoordinated and isn't really keen to try new foods ... he nibbles at veggies and sort of mashes and sucks the juices out but doesn't actually eat it. He also won;t try any fruit, i swayed him into eating pellets :)
2. Taming and training: he was avery raised - first day i got him, i left him alone to calm down and get used to his home and he was doing great from day one. He wasn't freaked out by me when i put my hand in the cage to change his food, he didn't fly around or anything, just say in the corner or on his branch.
I tried to teach him to step up .. which he can do but only when he wants, not when i ask like all the websites say he should .. he's quite stubborn - he's not actually scared of my hands either ... i can pet him and scratch his neck and head (most of the time ... until he decides to bite me ...)
when i ask him to step up onto my finger he just sits and stares at me ... not bothered by my finger (lol)
I red that i should take him away from his cage to hang out and bond, so if and when i can get him out i take him around the house, this is when he is okay to step up onto my finger (swapping hands fine) if i put him on the floor he runs away though lol
But if hes hanging around ontop of his cage he will run away from me .. occasionally i can slowly work my way into a neck rub if he's on a branch on the side of his cage.
He enjoys fluttering off his cage (his wings are clipped) and than climbing back up again .. lol
will he come to me with time... any tips how to bond better with him?
for some reason today he doesn't want to come out of his cage ... he's being anti social :( sleeping on top of his coconut house in the corner .. this worries me, like he's scared again or something
any tip or help would be great ^_^ thanks <3
