Some of my water and food dishes were beginning to look a bit old so I ordered quite a few new ones about a week ago. I went through my entire aviary and any food/water dish that had been there a while got replaced. Well, that was fine for me but not all the recipients liked the change!

All I ordered were white and yellow dishes that have a perch in front of them for comfort purposes. Some of the dishes I replaced were dark colors (brown/purple) and the yellow replacements didn't immediately have lovebirds sitting on them, eager to eat! It took about an hour for them to realize the change was only color but the change made them cautious for a while. A few of them even sat on a perch and screamed at the new addition!

Creatures of habit............ :)

When my girlfriend painted her nails red, our two were terrified and refused to come near her until she removed it!

Birds have better color vision than we do. Rather than have an abundance of non-color sensing rods in they're eyes (like we do for night vision) they've got violet receptors. They can actually see into the ultra-violet range so things look very different to them.

They see colors we can't even imagine. The drawback is that they can't see a thing when it's dark.

Interesting. I always knew they could see in colour but not like this.
