I'm new to lovebirds

Hi I have a few questions. My young bird does this really fast wing flapping while sitting on her perch. Also I've noticed she puffs up when I talk to her. And sometimes when one particular girl talks to get she bobs her head up and down really fast. What do all these things mean?

My Alexandrine does this wing flapping when he's cozy and ready to nap. However, I've never seen this behavior displayed by any of my lovebirds.

When they puff up their feathers also means they're cozy and feel secure.

I'm not familiar with the head bobbing behavior, but if it's the same behavior as with big parrots, I read it means they're excited.

Wing flapping is exercise in place to strengthen wing muscles. Even my older lovebirds do this. I agree that fluffed feathers when you are talking to them means they are comfortable with what you are doing. Head bobbing is an expression of excitement, good excitement. I have an African Grey who does this after I scratch his head. It's comical!

Ditto does the wing flapping excersizes too. He used to do it while standing on his ladder but he got strong enough to actually lift the ladder off it's hooks. He wasn't strong enough to fly off with it so he had to drop it. It scared the heck out of him so now he does his "flappersizes" on a branch bolted to the cage. :rotfl

Max does a lot of head bopping and flapper sizing when he's excited...at least 10 times a day! LOL.
