Being a teacher, I have the luxury of having my summers off. During the summer I volunteer at the local animal shelter where I came across a 4 month old Fischers lovebird. I couldn't help but fall in love with the little guy and adopted him that day. Does anyone have information on how fishers lovebirds vary compared to peach faces? Is there anything I should be aware of when working with him?

Welcome to Lovebirds Plus Community! :)
I've bred Peachfaced, Fischer's and Masked Lovebirds and all three species have different personalities. All 3 can make absolutely wonderful pets. You just see more Peachfaced lovies because there is a wider variety of colors/mutations available and many breeders seem to prefer Peachies.
Fischer's tend to be a bit more shy than the other species but not timid like Masked can be. That's really the biggest difference. They are all native to Africa, just different locations. Unlike Peachie hens, Fischer's hens do not stuff material in their rump feathering if they are building a nest. They carry whatever they find, but they can shred paper with the same speed and agility typical of Peachfaced, Masked and Fischer's.
What color is your Fischer's youngster?

Hi Linda!
Thank you so much for your input. He is a blue fischer. White face with some dark grey on top of his head and roy a blue below his chest. He's willing to take millet from my fingers but screams for a good hunk of the day. Any advice on how to handle the screaming? Do you think it will die down?

I had a fischer! He's actually the inspiration for the first half of my user name.
He was such a sweetheart. He loved head scritches and cruising on us. He was way more wired than our previous peach faces, who would fall asleep on us. He would relax in a head skritch, but never fell asleep. He wasn't as noisy as our peachfaces, but still a chatty lovie.

Thank you so much for responding! It's good to hear that he will hopefully come around and enjoying being around the family.
