My Nimbus is is just coming up 6 months old. I've had him for about 2 1/2 months now. When I first got him, he would zoom out his cage when I put my hand in, and fly about my flat. I was a bit apprehensive of this as he was new to me and the surroundings. He soon got used to me putting my hand in, and no longer tries to fly out. However, I offer him plenty of out the cage time; whenever I'm at home I open up he cage door. He rarely comes out though. He will venture out quickly, maybe fly about my head, and then goes back into his cage. Is it just because he doesn't feel confident yet? Will he eventually come out more and more and fly about? I just don't want him to lose his strength in his wings and not be able to fly

Two and a half months is not really that much time to get used to his new home although it sounds like he's making progress. The fact that you can put your hand in his cage and not have him freak out is a very positive sign. :)
Each parrot is different and they adjust at different rates of time. Keep doing what you are doing and let him go at his own pace. The only way he would lose his ability to fly is if he were in a very small cage and couldn't exercise his wings at all. He will come out when he feels totally comfortable.
