Please help, I've purchased these two lovebirds today from a pet shop in France, so because of the language barrier I've not been able to get any info from them in regards to age or even if they've been sexed, I know this takes a dna test, these 2 were in a cage together with around 8 other birds now I've read of how much of a pain it can be to introduce new birds together so I assumed as they already lived together that they would be fine, I have recorded what's happening but can't figure out if I can post a video on here, but my blue lovebird keeps biting and pecking my violet lovebird around its neck when it goes near it and then bites its feet when it moves/flys away it's not preening, this looks really aggressive to me and I can't find anything online that helps, is this normal or should I return one of the birds? Please help I don't want one to get hurt or worse thanks

Well don't they love to make a liar of you
Just been to take a few photos as I've seen another thread where somebody asked to see the bird so thought I'd be a step ahead and get a few quick snaps,
and they've now been sat together on that swing together for over an hour fingers crossed that it's a positive sign!

If you find that these 2 keep biting at each other around the neck area or foot area, you will have to separate them, temporarily, until they get to know each other. They may have been in the same cage at the pet shop but they may not have gotten along even in that cage. The pet shop isn't going to tell you anything because most important to them is that sale!

If they sit together peacefully, yes that's a good sign. Please keep a careful eye on them as the dominant one has the ability to seriously injure or even kill the less dominant one. Back of the neck is where the damage is done and it's not pretty to see.

Now you may also see them preening or grooming each other and that's a sign of affection. I seriously suggest that you DNA sex these 2 so you know what you have. Hopefully, the test will come back 2 males rather than 2 hens. Males are usually happy campers together but hens can go either way. I have female pairs that get along just great and I've had those that don't. Just depends on the 2 birds.
