I have been wanting to get my dear Blu another friend for a while now. I was planning on getting him another male lovie but have recently fell in love with a wonderful Cockatiel beauty.

I know putting a lovebird and a cockatiel together is a big no-no. Especially since my boy is very nippy and quite aggressive. However, I was wondering if the birds would be happy to be in each other’s presence. Each in their own cage in the same room after quarantine.

I think that having someone to talk to would make Blu very happy. Maybe even some supervised interaction?

I’d appreciate any input or experiences you’ve had. Thanks :grouphug:

How well I understand wanting to get another companion for Blu. I keep mine in pairs, with the rare exception of those that don't want a companion, and they keep each other company when I'm not there. While having a Tiel and a Lovie together is usually a no-no, I've seen exceptions to that rule. It all depends on the individual birds and how they interact. In any kind of confrontation, the Tiel has the disadvantage even though the Tiel is larger. The lovie has the stronger beak. Having them in the same room, perhaps even cages side by side is an option. Sorry there's no black and white answer to your question but all I can share is my own experiences.

We had a tiel once, a hen, and I was sooo surprised at how much softer her bit was than my lovie at the time. I had a fischer, so he was small & fiesty. They could not be out at the same time.

My home has 2 lovies right now, a cranky old hen & a young male. They are in separate cages & have separate out time. They call to each other though.
