I'm re-thinking getting the OF lutino. Don't really know why. Nothing to do with the breeder but I'm just thinking that Mango is turning out to be so awesome, hanging out on my neck for hours while I'm on the computer and I'm afraid adding another birdie to the mix is not a good idea. A long time ago I had this amazing cat and I thought he needed a friend. So I bought another kitten and it turned out to be the kitten from ****. This cat was wild, vicious, very unlikable. I'm sensing that this might happen again if I get the other bird. I think I'll wait a couple of days and see if I feel differently

Hi Lori,
A number of our members originally thought the same thing. I'll lose my wonderful pet. Truth is that you may gain 2 pets! How friendly Mango remains depends on how much attention she gets from you. The OF Lutino may not be the right bird and that's the decision you will have to make.

Thanks Linda, I suppose a day or 2 of thinking won't hurt. Who knows maybe I'll change my mind today after all.

Lori,
Sounds like a plan to me. You need to make sure that this is the right choice for you and Mango. It's an added responsibility and pet ownership needs to be for life. Pets passed from home to home to home is not a good thing. I respect your position on this. :)

Lori,
I thought about adding a second bird for months. It is a personal choice, and Mango will be perfectly fine being a single lovie.
I made the decision to add another bird because I work and am gone 9-10 hours a day. I wanted Bela to have companionship, and I also felt he deserved to have a companion of his own kind. That of course was my personal feelings on it.
Lacey has been a wonderful addition, and I love her sooooo much. She is a sweetie pie, and as Linda said, I gained another pet, and Bela has his true love. There's no guarantee this will always work out though, as some birds may not accept each other, so it is something to think about. In all reality, you might need to have two seperate cages if they don't get along, and of course that's double duties ;) This is why I said in my other post that I would add one sooner than later if you were going to. As they get older, they may be less accepting of sharing their space.
I agree with you though. Take a few days to think about it. Big lifetime commitments deserve thorough thought :)

I think it's great that your really giving some thought to adding another bird. I think what you need to decide is what's best for you and Mango. If you are able to spend a lot of time at home and Mango gets several hours of out of cage time a day then he really shouldn't get lonely. While I have a slew of birds nowadays, when we originally bought our second bird Squeaker as a mate to Zimber we thought long and hard. We weren't really home a lot at the time and Zimber would spend hours perched in front of the mirror and when we went on vacation we came back to a sad and lonely guy. So at the time, it was the right decision for us.......If you do decide to get the other bird you may have two snuggle bugs, one for each shoulder :D.
