I did not come home with a new bird. But was not for not wanting..lol. I got new things for budgies and a few things for Whisper and Baggy. I got to meet Janie and Jackie :D They are sweet ladies and a good help to me. I wanted to stay longer but.. My 1yr old got hurt this morning. He hit head hard and cut it. I wanted to get him home so I could keep an eye on him. I did see some masked and saw a American Cinimon. I was so tempted to get..and it was a male. But I walked right by.lol.My daughter loved it. But next time I am finding a sitter for sons. My 3yr old tried to walk off with a tiel. Well I am off to try and move budgies to new cage. They deserve the upgrade.

Steph, after you left, Jackie and I were standing near the area where the Am. Cinnamon was and some clueless buyer was about to purchase it so I walked over and asked them if they knew anything about lovebirds (they didn't) and told them a thing or two, :lol. Mainly about cage size, toys, behavior and Jackie gave them this website address. Very nice folks, buying the bird for her adult brother. The breeder told them it was a female (course he didn't really know) and they bought the bird, were walking around looking for toys, cages, etc. and I asked them what the breeder suggested for seed. He neglected to mention that so I went back to him and asked him the age of the bird (didn't know) and what type seed he'd been feeding and if the bird had been offered fresh foods. This breeder was pathetic! No fresh foods and he was feeding parakeet seed. :( Hopefully the folks that bought the bird will check in here. They were very happy that Jackie and I butted in! The breeder probably wasn't! :D
It was very nice to meet up with you and I hope your little guys boo-boo is feeling better. Boys and boo-boo's just go together! My guys always had one or two when they were younger! :D
P.S. *I* also came home birdless! :D

Now I am kinda glad I did not get the bird. I might of yelled at that breeder. I did forget to mention there was a hybrid there I saw. It was a masked and peach faced(i asked) the breeder was clueless about it not being wise  I did have fun though. My son is back to his normal self(giving mom a heat attack..lol).

You did mention the hybrid but I forgot to look for it. I did see the mask and the fishers. Did you notice that one of the fisher's had a terrible crack in it's beak? YIKES! I did ask about that and the breeder knew nothing except that the beak was cracked....DUH! It actually looked like a piece of the beak was missing. Imagine having a bird in that condition for sale.
Truthfully, I do mostly walk through bird fairs with blinders on. I find I'm much better off if I don't look and especially at the lovebirds. I don't mind looking at the larger parrots because I'm not tempted....although I did take a card of an African Grey breeder today! :D Heck, she lives in Buford! Same place that Big Boi and Shy came from!

Hi all!
Well, I finally made it back home after driving to TN and back :lol Did you know that Janie lives near TN?
Anyway, I took pictures of what I bought today so you can see in the photo gallery.
Step, I hope you had a good time today. It's a bit overwhelming sometimes. Today's show was pretty busy. :)

Dave, I am NOT getting a grey! :D What I found interesting about this breeder, other than that she had all her front teeth (there are some rough folks at this particular show), was that when I mentioned my age and being too old to have a grey, she said that if I could not "will" it to someone that would give it good care, she would take it back. She sold a cockatiel to a man, 90 years old and living in a nursing home. The man and his daughter hadn't found anyone else who would sell a tiel to anyone that old. She told them she would take the bird back upon his death. He did die, 7 months after he got the tiel and she did take it back. For some reason, his daughter could not take the bird but did tell the breeder that those 7 months were the happiest ones her father had had in the last 10 years. I don't know whether she re-homes the birds or keeps them but I'd rather have a breeder that I purchased my bird from re-home it than to have some family member pass it off just to get rid of it. I know there are some very GOOD breeders out there but lordy, there are some bad ones, too, and most of what I saw today were nothing to brag about. I just had a good feeling about this woman so, I took her card. ;) Ya never know! :D
Let me say again, I am NOT getting a grey! If I say it enough, I'll make myself a believer! :lol

Janie,
If you were to get a Grey and needed to "will" it to someone, I'm very sure there are several members here who would have no problems taking the bird!! I'm in a similar situation where my daughters don't really want my birds.
Janie's gonna end up with a Grey and wonder why she didn't do it sooner.... :)

I'll volunteer!
Be careful what you volunteer for, Dave! You could end up with a real handful as far as birds are concerned!!! When Ditto flies to you and lands, it only takes up a small portion of your shoulder. When Dao flies to me, that's 2.5 lb of bird flying directly towards me! Landings aren't always comfortable........

I'd be more concerned of him landing on my nose like Ditto does sometimes. :lol

A lovebird might view your nose as a potential perch but larger birds think in terms of landing on your entire head! I kinda tend to protect my face when one of them is flying to me. Landings are always graceful, either! :)

I missed a word in there. I should have said attempting to land on my nose. A grey would need my whole face.
Ok so I'll wear my motorcycle helmet!

Janie,
If you would like to meet/interact with a Grey first, you're more than welcome to spend a week-end with me and you can play with Harley! He's pretty good with strangers and if you ain't sold on Greys yet, you will be!!!

Greys have the ability to talk but not all do. Ginger will make sounds but her word vocabulary is zero!

Then there's Mijo who is a regular jabberjaw. He likes to go through his entire vocabulary twice daily. Once in the morning and once in the evening :x :x .

Laura,
Harley is a real jabberbeak, too! Ditto with Bird Bird! It's amazing how much you can learn about where they've been by what they say........

Oh Steph....it sounds like you guys had fun at the bird fair....and how I envy all of you bird buddies.....I want a bird buddie!....or at least someone like Janie who will keep me from buying more birds.
And I just have to laugh at Janie's comment about the breeder that actually have all their front teeth....because I was beginning to wonder if missing teeth was a requirement as a lot of bird people are missing some.....I'm not missing any, but I do have a mouth full of lead....so I really shouldn't say anything...but as my 35 + year old metal fillings fall apart I get those nice tooth colored ones to replace them :D
Is Janie getting a Grey?.....Sure sounds like it!.....it's getting cloudy in GA....or just really dim......dark......misty.....and grey.

Linda, I'm on my way! :D Seriously, I'm already sold on Grey's and it's been my number one "wish" bird since I got interested in parrots which was the day Oliver first stepped onto my finger and I adopted him. :D
Never say never but I doubt I'll get one and I know that if it did happen, it really should be a re-homed or rescue bird. Maybe one that's already got 60 years under it's belt! :D
Paulette, I didn't do such a good job with Jackie! If you take your eye off that girl or turn your back for a second, she gets another bird! :D

I've been thinking about that too. One of these days maybe I'll find an older birdy that needs a home and not be able to resist.
