Sunday morning I left very early for work. So early that I didn't let Blu out of her cage, she was still sleeping.
When I came home at noon, my husband was commenting on how noisy and agitated Blu was while I was gone. She would scream, follow Jeffrey in the kitchen, screech, scream and seemed very agitated. He said, finally she went back in her cage on her own and sat on her perch, telling whoever walked by what exactly she thought.
I looked at Dan and asked him: "Did you feed her?" Him: "What do you mean?" ME: "In the morning, when I let her out of her cage, she gets half a fig, a piece of birdie bread and clean water on top of her cage. Did you feed her?" He went dead silent. He didn't know Blu needed to be fed since she has seeds in her cage. He didn't realize that morning I broke her routine. I left too early.
So I showed Danny where to find everything and how to prepare her breakfast and I proceeded to feeding poor little Blu. When she saw her silver cup, she rushed out of the cage waiting for it. The way she devoured it, I think she really missed not having breakfast. I am now afraid of leaving the house for more then 12 hours. I don't know how Blue and my dear husband would ever survive without me! But lesson learned! Don't work overtime so early on Sunday morning unless there is a detailed list on the counter of what to do while I am not home.... and nope, it's not watching TV!

Hi Elle,
A detailed list in a visible place sounds like an excellent thing to have in case you are not there! The DH would have no excuse other than lack of reading ability and I would make very sure he knows where that list is located!

I really need to do that with my own flock, as I don't think anyone in my family totally knows all my daily routine.......

I'm usually home to do it but I did not realise how much impact it would have on Blu (and my son's ears) not to get her breakfast on time.
It doesn't happen very often that I am not around but we never know. An emergency doesn't anounce itself before it arise.
It seems that birds are creatures of habbit (Blu for sure!). It's not life threatening not to get breakfast on time for Blu but it is a stress that she doesn't need.:)
I'm sure that with breeding stock the stess may have a bigger impact then on one single bird.
I guess I have a new year resolution now. Get Danny trained to look after Blu just in case I'm not there.
