Well yesterday was quite the excitement. My previously injured lovie which i moved back into her old cage indoors finally has a brand new cage. I got her a nice cockatiel cage with all the goodies for 69 bucks.

I had thought Priscilla would be her name but it just never would stick, now i have been calling her Lyndsey. I like that name better.

Getting a wild-like, strong flighted lovie out of a 4ft tall cage into a smaller one was a journey of my own wits. I released her into the house and set up her new place so that she is in the hub of all the entertainment of the house. She can view into two portions of the house; the kitchen and the living room. She can see the TV going and she can see the parakeets.

I finally waited the full afternoon and even though she did land on the cage and try to get to the food she just never would step into it. Her choice was to just hang out on the parakeet cage sneaking nibbles of their millet spray. So i tried to coax her onto a perch so i can walk her to it, that was a riot. I then just reached up and caught her, as she was before when she was injured she just let me put my hands around her and scoop her up, no biting or fussing.

Her injury turned out to be the missing digit to a toe, not sure why i didn't realize her toe was shorter and without a nail, i guess because she held her foot up whenever i got close enough to see with my old eyes. All is healed and clean, she is not favoring the foot and seems quite interested in everything i do. I will give her two weeks in this new cage before i begin to let her have daily flights in the house. Then i will know she knows where she belongs, i bet it wont be long and she will be on my shoulder to tell me all about her day.

Hope everyone is having an extra-special holiday with friends and family this year, Biggest Huggs, ... Auntie Ron

Hey Ron,

Glad to hear Lyndsey is doing well. Most fids do quiet well with a missing toe as long as it's not the back toe. If so, you will need to give her a comfy perch to navigate in the cage well.

Hope you have a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year:)
