I have been visting all of the pet stores and pet supply stores around town for supplies for Gypsy (who is taking an awfully long time laying her egg/s, but is still pooping fine:) ) A couple of stores have had lovebirds, I've seen a pair of orange face, a lutino, a cinnamon and a masked mutation...I want them all! But it's not only lovebirds, it's birds in general, I've also come across a parrolette that would have fit nicely into my purse:whistle: a blue gold macaw that was so sweet I'm sure I could get him to hide in my shirt until I got to the car:evil: and don't even get me started on the conures:omg:
I've been lost to the birds;)
On a sad note, at one of the pet stores there was a pair of lost looking goffin cockatoo's who after 12 years were given up by their owner. They now sit in a small display cage to be picked at by snot noised kids. I doubt anyone will buy them and if they did they would most likely end up returned back in to store>: . There are no bird or exotic animal rescue agencies that I know of here in Newfoundland, two big chain pet stores have opened in my area in the past year, I think we will need a place for unwanted pets to go, it makes me miserable to think of those lost faces staring at me from behind bars with a dirty water dish and no toys:cry: .
I want to help...

Angela, watch out! You're becoming a bird addict! :lol
I'm sorry to hear about the Cockatoos. So sad and it happens way too often to so many birds, especially the high maintenance larger parrots. If only people would think and do their research before they buy. At least they remain together, so far.

I know how it is, Angela. I want all the birdies, too!
It's a shame about the Cockatoos. I work in a petstore, and just over a month ago, two lovebirds were brought in because the owners couldn't handle them any longer (or weren't able to have them; either way). These two are only a couple years old, but it's still very sad. I wish I could take them myself. I'm keepin' my fingers crossed!

I always have to have someone to rescue me from bookstorea and pet stores
I live just outside of St. John's (the capital city), the weather has been great lately, yesterday it was 15 C which is 52 F, that is amazing for january, normally it would be 0 C (32 F) or below and our summer weather averages 25 C (77 F) . I enjoy living in Newfoundland, we have a wonderfully pristine environment, low crime and we don't get too cold in the winter (I know some of you from more southern climates are thinking 0 C (32 F) is pretty cold but I have experienced colder I spent some time up in Iqualit Nunavut and in dec temps went down to -35 C (-31 F) brrrr and it gets colder in jan) and it doesn't get to hot in the summer...but sometimes you can really feel the lack in amenities (like no animal rescues except those for cats and dogs)

Not to hijack this thread to bad but... I remember when I was in NewFoundland it got to about 65 in the day when we were there and about 40 at night.. this was at the beginning of August... I just remember it feeling soooo nice (except the bugs) hehe... everyone we met up there was incredibly nice!!!!! We went to St. Johns when we were there and also some stranger named places like blow me down & come by chance :)
Ok... I will stop hyjacking this thread now... I just loved it there soo much!!! BTW... im actually from Boston I just moved to GA a few years ago... so I understand cold weather ;)

did you visit Dildo?
not to be vulgar...but we really have a community named Dildo... people keep stealing the sign that say's "welcome to the town of Dildo"

I'm not sure how that town got it's name, but I do know that when Newfoundland was first settled the people who founded the communities didn't expect to live here permantly...but they did...and the names stuck:lol

hahahaha.. I dont think I saw Dildo although I was only 14 so I may have and not realized it :)
Angela, you really have bitten the bug. It won't be too long before you won't be able to resist buying any more Lovebirds:evil:
Spare a thought for us Aussies, this summer we have experienced average temperatures of around 35C (95F) and in the southern states (which are usually cooler) they experienced a day that was 41C (106F)
Apparently, our average temperatures are up by 10C from last year:eek:

Our last summer here in Manitoba was colder than usual. I don't think it got much over 30 C, the best of days (it usually gets to just over 40 C for at least a few days). But this winter has been very, very mild. The last few weeks it hasn't gotten lower than -20 C. I'm not complaining, or looking forward to it finally reaching -45 or -50.

I remember visiting my uncle in Princeton, BC which is around the little deserty belt we have in BC. I am very fair with blonde hair and pastey skin. I don't fair so well in the very warm days... Can you say HEAT STROKE :x .When we were there a few summers ago it hit 42C for a few days and i was out in the middle of one of those days riding a black horse in thick jeans, and black riding boots. When i got back to the barn i blacked out... not much fun. I love the heat though.... jeeze... i am actually able to be warm. I don't know why i live in the north when i am wearing full jackets in +15C and still cold  . I think i was supposed to live in Australia. Have an extra room Jeremy ;) :lol ?
Well i did forget to mention we usualy have 60-70% humidity:eek:
So 37c actually equates to around 52C:eek:
At the moment every day is about 34C with around 60% humidity, oh yeah, did i mention i don't have air conditioning:cry:

I don't knwo how you would be able to breathe there when it is that humid. I could see myself there lying in a kiddy pool in my front lawn with a glass of lemonade, with my hair fizzed in a 2 foot circle around my head from the humidity. We have days that are humid like that too but we aren't nearly as warm. It is usually around 20C-25C when it is that humid so really only feels like about 30C or 35C. And we always get a booming thunder storm that evening to cool things off a bit.
