View Full Version : After much scratching, biting, and mutilation of my hands...

...I've finally clipped Etna. She doesn't like hands, but she loves to sit on my shoulder, head, or anywhere besides my fingers. By now she had her full flight wings in, and by having them, I knew that it would be a lot harder to get her to sit on my finger because she didn't have to depend on me to 'rescue' her. Thankfully, my mum helped me with her, because I definitely wouldn't have been able to do it myself (I clipped everyone's wings, actually, but Etna's were the only ones fully grown out). I thought she would be furious with me, but surprisingly, she flapped onto my arm and crawled up to sit on my shoulder, and there she remains as I type this. She must feel pretty safe there: no hands can properly catch her! I'm bleeding from numerous gouges, thanks to her, but it was worth it. Hopefully moreso later on.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that to distract the birds, I hold spray millet right up to their beak, and follow their beak if they happen to move. It works very well. If I hadn't done that, I wouldn't have any fingers left.

Lisa, I'm sorry to laugh at your post! :lol My fingers are VERY sore from lovebird bites myself.

Congratulations on the wing clip! :)

Yea!! Clipping wings is no one person task around our house any more. :omg: I clipped the juveniles's wings yesterday and used a towel and still got bit...so I empathize completely. The millet spray is a good trick.:)
