Well i made the mistake of going to Petcetera today. We were there to get a part for my fish tank and a birthday present for Kameko (It will be my birthday but she gets a toy to celebrate too). We were disappointed to not see any lovies in the aviaries, but then we turned the corner and in a cage they had 3 pairs of lovies. 2 were normal green peach faces, 2 were blue masked (i am no expert at all but i saw a violet factor i think) their bums were bright purple, and the first 2 fischers i had ever seen :eek:, and they were gorgeous. They were soooooo cute all snuggled up in their pairs. Then i wanted to take them ALL home :D . Sean practically had to drag me away from the cage. If i had the space and the money and wasn't so scared of Kameko hating me for bringing home a new bird, i would have brought them all home. I just wanted to share.

How well I know the feeling of wanting to bring pet shop lovies home to my aviary! I don't go into pet shops for that very reason! The feed supply store where I get what I need has enough temptations and I don't need any more!!

FYI, Green Masks and Blue Masks have violet colored rump feathering but they are not violets. A Violet Mask is a dark purple bird all over and there aren't too many of them around. :)

Ah, I know how you feel. I wish I could take so many little (and big!) birdies home from the petstores.

Petcetera is insanely expensive, save when they ocassionaly have 'deals', which generally aren't very great. Last time I went to the Petcetera here, there was a dutch blue, normal fisher, and blue mask, all of which I wanted to nab.

Yeah that was the first time i saw a blue mask's behind and just noticed the purple. I told you i am no expert, i have no idea the mutations. I am not even sure of what mutation (if she has one) Kameko is >o .
Petcetera is freakishly expensive. The only thing i buy there is bird seed when it is on sale, it is a good deal then and i trust the brand. Also I buy my fish from there because they have a 30 day guarantee and all are 2 for 1. The exact same toys are on average $10 cheaper (some times even more) than Petcetera :eek: .
Sean would have loved to take home the fischers because he once had a black masked, Mackie. We both agree that fischers almost look like a cross between a black masked and a peachface. So it would eb a perfect mix between Mackie and Kameko. Maybe we will get one one day.

Yup, all Masks and Fischers (excluding Lutino and Albino) have violet rumps.

You can get SF Violet Blue, they look identical to Cobalts, then there is the DF Violet Blue which is the true Violet colour.
There are also SF Violet Green which are identical to Jades, and DF Violet Green which are identical to Olive.

I always wondered if Sushi was special since she/he has a purple tail.... guess its a normal blue masked! lol hahaha

The violet masked are very common here and I'm thinking of getting one to complete my "masked" lovebird group hehe. Next after that will be yellow lovies! My husband is going to kill me!

I shouldn't go to the pet store either. While they haven't had any lovies in awhile (the last one was a beautiful grey one that I almost took home) they have plenty of friendly 'tiels that always want to hop on my shoulder as I walk by. They're right in the middle of the store on a big branch with ropes and swings to play on. Occasionally one will hop on my shoulder while I watch them. :cool:

They had a GCC there for awhile who kept begging me to take him home. He was in a play area right on the counter near the cash register so I had to look at him.:whistle:

And the last time I went in there 2 weeks ago, where the GCC used to be, where 2 baby Sun Conures, not even weaned yet. They kept following me around they're little play area just begging to go home. :omg:


I need someone else to go buy Ditto's food. :rofl:

You tell ya daddy that there's a baby grey lovie just cuddlin on my shoulder as I type...and iff'n ya want a new buddy, ya gotta come to CANADA eh?? PS...And Ditto, Mamma thinkin its a girlie too :)
Now that there's a couple of people interested, I should set up a race to see who can get to my house first...hehehe

Lovebirds are always in during Valentine's day. Which is kinda funny in a way 'cause lovie's aren't all "Chocolates and Roses" to each other. PetSuperMarket had a few Lovebirds, all still had some black left on their beaks. I resisted buying one :D I'm waiting for my Green Cheek!
