I can understand being upset about seeing the people pestering the birds. Thats one reason I try not to go in Petsmart to often. I tend to get in trouble because if I see people doing that I will make a comment to them. Sometimes if my children are with me I will comment out loud about how rude it is to bother them. I also will tell people honestly about lovebirds if they are looking at them(same goes for budgies).

Hi Kumashe,

I'm glad you enjoyed the visit. The thing that popped into my mind as I read, was that maybe your Mom doesn't want you to have a bird, but would she mind if you worked at a petstore?? This way you could learn so much about them, make money for college, and give those birds a little extra care and loving that they may not get otherwise.

Just a thought to keep in mind;)

Hi Kumashe.....sounds like you had fun at the pet store......it might not be a good idea to be somewhere without your mom knowing....if there were an emergency and she couldn't find the 3 of you, it would only cause more trouble for you. As a kid....I would have done the same thing, but as a mom and had an emergency and couldn't find my kids....I would be really ticked and panic. I think Lori has a great suggestion. Lovebirds are loud....louder than I expected them to be. They shrill so loud, that if they are on your shoulder when they do it....it will almost put you to your knees. Maybe someone with only one bird could let us know if that is true when there is only one. I'm sure one is less loud if it doesn't have another bird to respond to, but I'm not sure because I have several. If you got it very young and taught it words or sounds then it would use them to communicate.

I think Lori had a great idea! If you could get a job at a pet store and work with birds you would have dozens of little lovies! They just would not get to come home with you at night.

I also am glad to hear you say you would not purchase from Petsmart. There is not nearly enough typing in the world for me to express how much I cannot stand their bird practices.

Paulette, at the moment i have 1 pet Lovebird. I wouldn't regard my Bazza as being loud but he has learnt the Ringneck call so it can be loud at times:lol I don't mind the screeching in the ear, it does leave my ear ringing for a few seconds but won't bring me to my knees:rofl:
He can be loud but that is because he likes to talk to the Ringnecks in the cage next to him, and he also calls out to the Lovies outside. If you took away all those other birds and it was just him, it would be fairly quiet around my place

I wondered.....with Sara and Jake both doing the shrilling while on my shoulder in the same ear....:omg: it would really hurt ya......me. I'm sure a single lovie would be very each to teach to talk....say certain words. Very fun.

I have had both a single bird and a pair. Both make tons of noise..lol. But I would not change the noise level for anything.
