Killdeer Chicks

These guys are my favorite. I have been keeping an eye on the nest over the last 4 weeks and I am happy to say all 4 eggs successfully hatched. I was sure to keep the location secret to avoid any unwanted observers. But I couldn't help myself from snapping a few pics. The chicks are precocial so they will probably be gone within a few days or hours after hatching. Hope you enjoy.

OH WOW! Those photos are just wonderful! I'm an avid back yard birdwatcher and saw my first Killdeer 2 years ago. Not in my yard but about two miles away. I've read that they "play" injured to draw attention to them and away from their babies. Cool birds, thanks for the great photos!

Took the family to see them this weekend. They truely are adorable. I had to post 1 more pic since now they are up and running around. I am sure to tell Rico that he is still my favorite birdy when I get home and give him lots of kisses. But how can anyone not think these killdeer are adorable....
