I am thinking there may well be many of us here who have birds named for the opposite sex :lol oops! In my house, my wf violet Jasmine became Jazz; my male Rat was named Flower, though there was no mistaking what sex HE was:omg: ; my kitty Charlie Beans turned out to be female - who knew? I never checked8o !
I was thinking there are quite a few names on your list that could fit either sex, or at least be altered slightly should you find out you guessed wrong! (Trust me, your lovie won't know the difference...)

You have some good names there! I agree with Traci, it just doesn't matter if you pick a female name and your lovie turns out to be a male but I must admit, every time Jackie mentions "Molly" and then adds a "he"....I have to laugh! She thought Molly was just too darn pretty to be a boy, :lol!
Get a load of this......my Oliver, before I adopted him was "Giggles!" What the heck kind of name is that for a lovebird or any pet? The second I brought him home, he became Oliver! His former owners dog is named Oliver so I guess that wouldn't have worked for her! :D Sometimes you just look at them and a name fits! :)
I am so happy that your dad has agreed to vet care! That is wonderful news! :)

How about Africa?, you did mention coming from there. I like spanish words for names. Kiss is Besar. Bird is Pajaro. Mask is Gafas, but that's not very interesting. Black is Solo, but that won't go well with Gafas for Black Mask. Spanish is backwards so it would be Gafas Solo, I don't like it. That's all I got.;)

My poor sweet Molly. Now everytime I look at him I think of him as a male instead of a female. Back when I got him and didn't know, I gave him the first name that came to mind. I almost named him Emily or Emma  I keep thinking that maybe I should change the spelling to "Maulie". It's a thought >o

Heh, I know how it is. I don't know whether Cedric is a male, Etna is a female, or Laharl is really male. If you don't have the money to spend on dna sexing, or could put that money to better use, don't bother. It doesn't truly matter unless you are breeding, even if it is nice to know.

I like Skyler, or Skylar. It would most likely get shortened to Sky,but either way, all of those are unisex names:)

Alright, I've decided. Lil' No Name will be called Indigo aka Indy. I think it fits since he has a little indigo colored rump anyway.

 All those names are really great and some of them are really different so why not pick a not familiar name.

I think that's a great name. Who cares if your little lovie is a male or female. I mean I have a female lovie named Spike and I've never thought of changing her name.
So, how are things going in building a relationship with lil' Indy?

I think Indy is a great name.
One thing to remember is that even if you get a DNA test, it could possibly be wrong, if the results come back male. Case in point, Dee's little Oliver. Oliver was a DNA tested male who surprised everyone by laying a clutch of eggs! Now she is Lady Oliver. :)

Actually things are going quite well. He lets me put my hand all the way into the cage. It doesn't matter if its right under him, all he'll do is watch it. He doesn't freak out as much anymore.

I am so glad to hear that things are going well with Indy. You sound as if you are being very patient with him/her. My first lovie Zimber is a cobalt black masked lovie. He is six years old and when we first got him he was as wild as wild could be. Over the years, with love and patience, he has turned into such a sweet loving thing. Of course, he still hates hands but we have developed a lot of games and special time that doesn't include hands. I'm sure over time, Indy will win your heart like Zim has won ours:D :D .

Keeping in mind that Phoebe may have been hand fed, but not tamed at this time, what I do is sit in the tub (after I clean it, of course) with her on my shoulder. We stay about 5- 10 minutes and I talk to her. There is no hand movement during that time. She calms down after a while. This is a way of getting her used to me.
I keep the shower curtain closed so she can't fly away. While inthe tub, if she were to take off, she would still be landing on me.

Hi Paulette,
I just meant to tell you that Black in spanish is actually negro, while mask is máscara. So Black Mask would be Máscara Negra :). Gafas is the word for glasses and solo means alone. Actually Zorro, the action character, the one who leaves "z"s carved with his sword, is also sometimes called El Enmascarado, literally he who wears a mask, and I believe mask lovies are known in spanish as enmascarados, but I may be wrong. All these is of course, not at all important, and not at all related to lovies :) .
Kumashe, I think Indigo is a beautiful name for your lovie :).

So if I ever get a black masked lovie I'll name him Zorro! 8)
There I made it about lovies for 'ya.

I love the name Indigo! Perfect! I had the same problems deciding on a name for my little critter. We went around in circles trying to find one that "fit". Finally decided on "Jester" since he acts like a little clown and has a big red nose :D But it took about a week and a half. And went from Stewie to Bobset to Johari to Zuri to Soleil to .... etc.
Anyway, I'm glad your birdy has a name and I know what you mean about them feeling so special to you. I adore my lil guy even though he is so little and still kinda scared of me, although he will step up and get petted, he doesn't Like it yet.

I've got non-familiar names and everyone keeps asking me how I pronounce them. Greek gods, need I say more.
Janie even said if they were her birds she would be calling everyone 'Hey You'.
Indigo is nice. I like it and I think birdie will like it too.
