View Full Version : I broke her heart....
I clipped Blu's flight feathers again today and she is looking at me with eyes full of devastation. The poor girl has her heart broken. She can't follow me in the bedroom anymore of race me to the bathroom.
Instead, she sits on her cage stand and flaps her wings chirping : " Why? Why?"
Talk about making me feel guilty. But I know it's best for her. She was getting into too much trouble. And now it's fair and equal. If Pheobe can't fly, she can't fly.

Elle,
It is heartbreaking to see them pout after a wing clip. I'm sure Ms. Blu will find she can still fly before too long though;)

Blu says that's not the point! What about now, I can't fly right now! :(

I'm glad Ditto behaves himself. I don't know if I'd have the heart to clip him after his last one. He'd probably have flashbacks. :(
Most of the time I actually have to convince him to fly anywhere, otherwise he's quite content to hang with me. Unless he's hungry, then it's back to the cage to grab a snack and bring it back.

Elle, when they get into trouble, you just don't have a choice. For the first time ever, Oliver is fully flighted and so far, so good. :) He is not a very curious birdie so hopefully he won't give me reason to have him clipped again. The other two need one now! They are nothing but trouble and into everything! :lol I love letting all of them be flighted but sometimes that just doesn't work out. I'm sure Blu will be feeling much better by tomorrow. Extra millet for now! :D

Yep. I hate doing it, too. But it's for their safety. A little snip here, a sprig of millet there, and all is right again in the world. :)

It's not too fair around my house. As long as the boys (Peter & Luka) don't get into much trouble, I leave them flighted. They can make some trouble, but instead of clipping them I've been limiting their activities.
Peepo, on the other hand, I keep clipped. As a determined hen, as soon as she's out of her cage she keeps a sharp eye out for something to shred. Once she spots something, she's on a mission. If I allowed her to fly, she'd be on a non-stop shred-a-thon. She'll go through books and bills just the same as any other paper! Even when she's clipped, I have to be careful of what she sees closeby.
So, it's not fair, but it works. And if I can manage them better, it's good for them. :) And a little millet can help the hurt feelings.

Poor Blu :( I had to do this to Daisy about a week ago and she made me feel sooooooooo bad. She sat on my shoulder chirpping quietly so I gave her a BIG spray of millet and told her she didn't have to share it with Olivia. I only keep Molly flighted if I can.

My mischeivous hen found a stack of cash that I had set on the couch from one of our reefkeepers club's fundraisers and shredded a good deal of it. Thankfully, she stuck to the edges for the most part, and it took me a couple of hours to "unshred" it and try to tape it all back together. Amazingly, the bank took the money! I figured my bird had just made herself an $80 nest.
Sorry to hear your bird's pouting from the clipping. My extremely curious baby lovie had to have his wings clipped last week, and he was definitely bewildered by not being able to fly. Good thing they don't hold grudges! :D Birds are great that way, aren't they?
