Hi Everybody!
The bird is with me now. It is a sea green bird and I decided to name it Biscuit. Biscuit is rather scared now. She likes climbing her cage a lot. This morning, I allowed her to venture out of her cage for the first time. Since her wings are clipped, she couldnt really go far. Initially she tried to escape me, but i was able to gently catch her, allowed her to sit in the cup of my hand and guided her to go back into her cage. ;) I am even more glad that i did not get bitten in the process. Any suggestiopns on my next step?

Mandy,

Sounds like all is going well. If Biscuit's not biting, that is very good:D

Keep doing what you are doing, and just spend as much time as you can with her. It sounds like she is settling in pretty well, and as she gets used to her new surroundings, she will do better. Just reassure her in a soft voice that all is well, and tell her how much you love her(I know you do already), and this should help calm her a bit.

Keep us updated:)

Hi there,

Wow! I think that is great! Especially the part where you were not bitten. I think your lovie is a very friendly one then... I suggest you just allow time to go by before training. There would come a time that it will willingly fly to you.

Great news!

I am beginning to allow her more time out now. I think she enjoy's being out of her cage, I mean, who would like to be stuch in a 9X14 cage all day? I'm really surprised at how well this si turning out especially since she bit her breeder rather viciously when i requested her wings to be clipped. Wish me luck, tommorow is another day.

Hi,
I'm glad you're getting off to a good start with Biscuit (cute name). If you take it slow and watch her body language, you will be fine.

If her cage is only 9X14, you should consider getting her another cage. A single lovie should have a cage that is about 24" x 24" with bar spacing no wider than 5/8". Lovies are climbers, and this will give her plenty of room to move around. It'll also give you room to place different kinds of perches and toys, to keep her entertained.

You can use the smaller cage for a few things. You can use it as a "travel cage". I have a small cage that I take to the vets office if I have to board my two males. I also have used it to be able to take my bird(s) outside with me onto my deck. **not left unattended** We enjoy sitting out in the evening sun around dinner time.
