Ok well, this is soooooo cool!
Here the past few days, at about 4:30am some of the birds start singing. Trixie gets up and gives just a little peeper call to me to make sure I am in bed. We do this a couple of times. Then Trixie calls out to the other birds a few times, then eats a snicky snack and jumps back on his perch (I cant see him cause of his nighty night cover but I hear him :) )
Then after he gets up, wakes up and starts acting like he is ready to start with his day (after daddy snuggle time of course) he starts calling to his friends and maybe I am imagining it but the outside birds song changes!!!
Ok so this is cool and all but get THIS.
Now some of his smaller friends are landing on the window sills and ojne of them gave me and Trixie beepless bobs!!!!!
I am not kidding! The bird beepless bobed me, I beepless bobed him/her and Trixie beepless bobs us both!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didnt know all birds beepless bobbed. I thought just Trixie and other lovies did it!!!!
Today we had a little chat through the window (CLOSED of course). Trixie stayed velcro'd to my sholder by my neck (I am guessing to feel safe) but looks and talks to his little friends.
Hearing all the bird songs and listening to Trixies new songs are the most beautiful thing in the world to hear.
:) :)

Perran,
It is too cute to see them interact with the outside birdies(from afar of course). I put a little of their left over seed on the patio in the mornings, and then we stand at the back door and wait for all the birdies to come and eat. They know that there is going to be foor there every morning, and they seem to know what time also. Then I get Bela and Lacey out and we watch the birdies eat for awhile, and then come to the water dish that is by the door, at this time they all go off:lol
Cappie likes to watch the outside birds too, but when he lets out his "beep, beep" sound, it tends to scare the poor outside birds:rolleyes:

Perran, when I lost Oliver (briefly, a year and a half ago) my biggest fear was that a flock of blue jays would fly by and he'd take off with them! He LOVES to talk to them and so do Big Boi and Shy. They don't respond to any other bird in my yard, not even the mockingbirds, but when the blue jays come in, all three go absolutely nuts and fly to the window perches and do all they can to get the attention of the jays. I think it's because their squawk is so "parrot" like. None of my three have been able to reproduce that jay squawk, thank heavens! :lol
I would love to know what species bobbed at Trixie. That is hysterical! :D Not a single one of my back yard birds pay a lick of attention to my lovies and that surprises me since I'd think they'd find the lovie calls interesting.

Before I bought my house, I lived in a duplex and there was a rail coming up the front porch that the outside birds would sit on. In front of that was a huge dogwood tree that attracted them too not to mention the birdfeeder ;) My bird cages were right in the front window very close to this area and the outside birds would come up to the window sill looking for them. Molly would get so excited when they talked to him. One of our daily events was to go to the window while he was on my finger (gripping hard) and he would tell me all about the birds outside. It was too cute. :)

I think Trixie stayed on your shoulder not for safety, but so he could share the experience with you. My birds always run to me when something exciting is going on, as if to say, "Check this out, Momma, aren't we having fun now?"
It is great how they learn to interact with the birdies outside, and they tell stories to each other about their day and their adventures. I have a HUGE fat robin that comes by every day and sits on the deck with a mouth full of worms and waits for the lovies to call to her. I think birds are more trusting of homes and humans that house tame birds. Perhaps they see a kind soul, safety, and a kindred spirit.

That's wonderful Trixie has some new friends. My flock is too loud for the outside birdies, apparently. When I have my bedroom window open while I sit on the deck, it's deadly silent outdoors. All I can hear are my eight, singing their heads off.

my fids are scared of the birds outside. they would fly nervously around the room when they hear blue jays and cardinals. they like to watch the sparrows from a distance but never liked the calls of jays.

My birds are jealous. The only flying things outside their window are:
Mosquitos (too small to bother with)
Airplanes (big and dumb; they don't chirp back)
A hawk (too scary)
My birds don't have access to the front windows so they don't see the duckies in the front yard.

That's so cute! Trixie has charmed the outside birds! My yard is always full of birds, large & small because I feed them. My birds love to call to them! The red-winged blackbirds seem to notice my birds calls. So far there isn't too much mimicry, but I've noticed some changes in my birds calls in the morning.
When I first got Peter I would take him on my deck in his cage for our dinner together. Once a robin stopped on a housetop looking for a friend. Peter and the robin carried on back and forth for about 20 minutes! Peter was quite proud of himself! The robin was obviously interested in Peter, too.

I think the sheer volume of lovies at my house keeps the outside birds from communicating with them. I have about 5 feeders in front of the house, but no birds talk to the lovies. I do however have a family of Scrub Jays that sound similar to the Quakers and really get each other going. They are just about the same size too.
Of course the birds want to talk to Trixie. Trixie is just too cute.
