Has anyone else noticed a sort of low thrumming when they have their bird on their shoulder and put their ear up against it?
Pete has been thrumming an awful lot recently. I thought at first he might be nervous, but he doesn't seem bothered while he's doing it.:omg:

Birds have an extremely high metabolism, and they actually quiver a little when they are just sitting at rest (almost like they are cold). I imagine the thrumming you speak of is just Petey with his vibrator set to 'high'.

That is what we call "vibrating". It is a good thing, and means they are happy and content. It may also be accompanied by beak grinding, which also means they are comfortable with you, and may be thinking of a little birdie nap:)

Yep, my Milo does this, especially right after I let him out of his cage.

Hi,
When I first got Luka (second bird) and spent more one on one time with him he used to do this. It sounded like purring to me. Now that he's bonded to Peter (first bird) he's more interested in Peter and I don't hear this purring. He may be doing it when they cuddle at night, but I can't hear it. :)
Your bird must really like you!

ahhh. This is good news. I was worried that he had a cold or a respiratory problem.
I have noticed it in combination with beak grinding, and (his favorite) eyelash grooming (mine, not his. :lol)
Good to know he's happy with me. I love him too! ^^

Lol. And the tail wiggle, of course. When I get home, he runs around his cage wiggling his tail and "peeeeeeeeeek kee roo"ing at me

It's almost like a little girl running up to you clapping her hands.
Birdy equivilant: "OMG! You're back! You love me! You didn't leave me! MAMMA'S BACK!!!!!"

I don't think I've ever heard any of my birds purring. I am so missing out. They do the beak grinding quite often, though, especially half an hour after the lights are out. Maybe I should teach them to purr, instead.

IT's kind of like.....well...hm....have you ever leaned on a washing machine with your ear against it during the spin cycle? Kind of like that.

Heheh. Never have heard that from a bird. Maybe my birds are special. :)
