View Full Version : New job!
I started working full time at a Petland in Duluth, it's a nice store, but I don't agree with them selling puppies and kittens. The owner is nice, but always on the go. I think I'll stay long enough to find a job somewhere else.
I'm not sure how much I'll earn an hour, but because I get a % of commission on everything I sell, it's probably like, $4.35 an hour. I do get a 20 lbs bag of Nutro dog food a month for free, so I'll not have to buy dog foog for a while. ( I have a 12 lb Boston Terrier pup at home ).
I do get to play with the Cockatiels and bring out the puppies and kittens for customers. I can run the cash register, but I don't have a register number yet, so I'm not earning commissions. I play with the rat babies when the store is slow, I might be taking two of them home with me :D They're so cute! Jeanette! I'm sorry I haven't called ya! It's been hectic here lately!

Congrats :D.
It's a shame they sell puppy's and kittens though.
Sounds like a cool job.

I was there just last Saturday! When I do buy my seed retail, they are the one pet store that carries it. I walk through with one hand blocking the view of the puppies for sale. I refuse to look at them. I've asked several of the kids working there if it bothered them, selling puppies. You know me, I just can't keep my mouth shut.
I love to look at their reptiles and got up close and personal with a Tarantula! :D
Congratulation, Amanda! I think you will be an asset to them and can help educate some of the sales people who don't know how to care for a bird like you do. :) I haven't seen any Too's in there for a while and I'm not sure if they are still carrying/selling the larger parrots. I do see lots of keets, conures and tiels there.
I spent about two hours talking to a pair of brother's who wanted a bird, but Mom was terrified of them. I showed them the tiels and about ran outta things to say about how great the birds are.
The Sun conure that is there is kinda cool, but it's not a cuddler like some of the tiels are. I also spent time with an Australian woman who ended taking home a ferret. She was pretty cool and we talked about lots of things while she was shopping.
It sucks that they sell pups and kitties, the Bull Terrier gets passed up for the smaller breeds. In the isolation room, there is a white Jack Russell puppy with Parvo. Vets come twice a week, so there might be hope for him yet.
Anyway! Everyone's welcome to come up to me and talk! We don't have name tags, but I'm probably the one playing with the cockatiels or the Sun. :p

Funny thing about that Sun Conure! I came so close to offering my finger to him/her and that is something I'm never even tempted to do but that little conure totally reacted to my voice and my whistles and I really did want to see if he'd step up but then again, that might have made me want him and I do NOT want another bird. I had no idea they sold kittens there. I am serious when I tell you that I will not look at that wall of puppies so if there are kittens there, I missed them. I wish they'd move the bird seed to the other side of the store so that I could get in and out w/o having to pass the puppies.
