Hey guys! I just got my bird about a week ago and I have been experimenting with which food Ti Amo likes. Ti seems to LOVE veggies carrots, broccoli, lettuce you name it Ti loves it BUT Ti doesn’t like ANY fruit. I’ve tried dried papaya, cranberries, pineapple, banana both dried and mushy, grapes, apple, and strawberries but no luck! is that normal that they prefer one or the other?

While most lovebirds love their veggies, the same is not always true for fruit. Some will eat certain fruits but mine won't touch any fruit at all! They are not fruit eaters in the wild so it seems to be an acquired taste... :)

Ditto is a veggie fiend. But he's not too fond of fruit. He will occasionally nibble on a piece of pair or apple but banannas are pure evil and need to be screamed at.

The only fruit he'll really eat regularly is the dried fruit in his nutriberries, he loves those.

My brother has pears, apples and some grapes in his orchard that he doesn't spray anything on so I'll see if he wants to eat them again.

Sugar snap peas on the other hand are the greatest thing on earth. He likes those even more than millet.

Yep, mine love thier veggies! Olivia likes raisins and has gotten Daisy to eat them too. Daisy also likes the shredded coconut in her mix as well as apricot or it could be papaya. Not so sure about Molly & Piper

I think I have the abnormal birds cause mine love their fruit. Their favorite is apples, these I clip to the cage in slices. Grapes I cut up into small pieces. They will also eat some orange, pear, figs, and they have picked at some strawberries, but were not crazy about them. If it can be clipped, they like it that way best, all but Lacey, and you better stay away from her grapes, they are all HERS!!!!:lol

Presentation does make a difference, so keep trying them different ways. Also, eating whatever you are giving him and making YUMMMMM noises will entice him to try them also.

The one thing I did was give mine a small plate with some fruits and veggies on it. I let them out to eat on the plate, and they made their rounds trying a little bit of everything. I put a fruit-veggie-fruit-veggie, etc... all around the plate. Sometimes they just don't know what they like until they actually get their beak on it:)

Some of my lovies will eat fruit but not all of them. I do offer grapes, apples, and papayas mostly. We also serve other things here and there. I've never met, in person, who liked bananas so I've stopped bothering.

Now my bigger parrots, they LOVE fruit and eat tons of it. I offer it everyday and the only one who's picky is Mijo my CAG. He did recently start eating apple after scoffing at it for the last six months since he came to live with us:rolleyes: .

You should see Mollie go after a cherry tomatoe!! It's bloodied all over the cage.
My babies eat apples, grapes, pineapple. But fruit just can't compare to veggies. They also love green tops off carrots from the garden.
And fresh green seed heads...started from their seed mix in the garden and picked when the seeds are full. They tear into these. and love shredding the green grass blades. I don't use any chemicals in the garden so these are safe. Olive grass, buckwheat, millet, canary seed, dallas grass, foxtail, all are readily ravaged.

Mine hate fruit to the extent that they will scream like someone is pulling their wings off if I should put any in the cage.

As for your feeding lettuce. It really isn't that good for them, so you may want to try 'kale'. It looks like lettuce, but has ruffly leaves, and is very high in calcium. Most lovies love it.

And don't forget dandelion greens, ones that you know have never been sprayed with anything. Yummy, available, and very economical.

I have one out of three that will eat fruit. Preferably dehydrated fruit but also an occasional fig. The other two run for their lives when they see fruit!

While it's great if your lovie eats fruit, be careful with grapes, when I was doing my research before getting Tango i found several sources that said that grapes should only be fed in VERY SMALL amounts, if at all, because they have such a high iron content, to much can actually be hazardous to their health as to much iron can actually be poisonous, my avian vet also told me the same thing at Tango's new bird exam. I know there will be people who have always fed grapes and not had problems, and to each their own, i guess, I'm just relaying what I've read and been told.
