i got a call about daisy but the child on the phone and the adult in the background spoke spanish, they kept asking me something but i couldnt figure it out. i did get a si when i asked if they had daisy and no answer when i asked over and over for the address where i could come get her.
after they hung up & i mulled over (for a couple days) what they said i think they were asking if they could keep daisy. i dont have caller id and since they wouldnt give me an address or name, just kept asking me that question over and over. and since i was so glad she was still alive, i have resigned myself to not getting her back. i had put out flyers, went house to house and called the police to see if the yellow bird found 5 doors down was mine. i felt i had done all i could to get her back, till i started wondering (2 weeks later) if i could have called the phone company and got them to do a reverse trace to get the address of the woman and girl that called me.

any way long story short i was missing daisy may so much i got another lovebird yeaterday. named her sweetypie, shes a green peachface.
the person who gave her to me said she is 2 1/2 months old.

daisy didnt have a band but sweetypie does, do i leave it on?
can anybody tell me how to read a band?

You can leave the band on or have the vet cut it off.

As for reading the band, each company is a little different. there are usually letters on the band that denotes the breeder or aviary, and some numbers that will usually be the hatchdate.

Good luck with your new birdie, and I hope Daisy May has found a kind and loving new home.

Cheryl, how frustrating that call must have been. Before we had caller ID, I hit *69 to get the last number calling my phone. I think it cost a dollar to do that so I only used that feature when I really wanted to know a number. If they should call back, you can try that.

Big Boi and Shy both had bands but since I knew the breeder and their hatch information I did have them cut off. My vet charged me $20 for each bird!!! It took her half a second!

Hey Shy, isn't 'Sweetie Pie' the name you told me I should have given my Shy bird? :D So that he might be a sweeter boy? :lol

Cheryl: I remember the frustration three years ago when I lost my Chopper. My husband and I did everything we could to get him back. We put tons and tons of posters up, searched the neighborhood, called the humane society and put ads in all the papers. We got lots of calls, but we never got him back. The worst was the night we got a crank call from someone who said they for sure had him. We got our hopes up so high only to be let down. I know someone had him and he was such a beautiful and friendly guy they just didn't want to give him back.

Congrats on the new lovie though I know there is no replacement for DaisyMae
