I was promoted to a new position at work last month and officially started last night. Yup, I'm back to the night shift :(. Blu doesn't understand why I was NOT up at 6 am this morning like I usually am. She has been screeching non stop since 6:05 this morning. And Phoebe thinks it's cool imitating her. I decided I might as well get up with my husband at 8 since I'm awake and hurting. I let Blu out of the cage. She jumped on me and refused to come off whatsoever, to the point that she bit me.
My head hurts, my fingers are throbing and I'm tired. But she doesn't get it. I hope she does before the end of the week, otherwise we have a problem.

big yawn,

Hi Elle,
Birds are creatures of habit and it's going to take a few days (maybe more) for her to adjust to your new schedule. All she knows is that the sun is up/shining and it's time to begin the daily fun routine. Mom get some sleep during the day?????? Hhhmmmmmm...............

Congratulations on your promotion! Hope all works out for you soon! :)

Aww. My babies did that when I was working from noon until 9pm. I'd want to sleep in a little later (say, 9:30 or 10) So I had to change MY schedule to adapt to them. I'd wke up at 8 and take them out for an hour, then maybe rest for another half an hour before work. Now that I'm back to 9-5 hours, they don't seem to be as noisy in the morning. They're the noisiest in the afternoon.

That routine is murder when you just want to sleep in, isn't it?

Mine start just before 6:30am. Weekends and holidays mean NOTHING in lovebirdland. Sun's up, time to get up. I can ignore them for a little while, but by 7 they're screaming. So someone (usually hubby as I am still out cold) gets up, uncovers them, moves them out of their night cage (in a back bedroom) and into their day cage (in the living room), opens the blinds, and serves breakfast. After that, things quiet down as birdies have breakfast and a midmorning nap. Then it's time for the lowly human crawl back in bed.

It seems you have him well trained. I wish mine would do that! He seems a little too nervous to do anything around them or even change food/water for me

Yeah Jen,

He's trained well. All I get is a nudge in the ribs, and grumble that sounds like this, "YOUR BIRDS are up" He loves them, but he ain't gettin up for them:roll:

Mine screech for me to uncover them, or open the drapes so they can see outside. I can do that without hardly waking up. :) Maybe your birds would settle for something like that?

Foam ear plugs used to take care of the rest of the problem for me, from the beginning. I now seem to be able to sleep through the noise quite well, if I'm tired enough. Talk about conditioning! :lol

I don't cover them at night. At this point I don't think covering them will help. I think it would scare them.

I know they will get used to wait until Danny gets up at 8. I know it will take a few days, weeks maybe. Blu was great before I went to the day shift. She was quiet until I got up. And Phoebe just likes doing what Blu does.

It's a period of adaptation for everyone. Me, trying to sleep in so I get at least 8 hours sleep ( 5 and half aint' gonna do it for me :) )My birds to l earn that freedom will come at a later time during the day but hey! For longer a longer period! There will be only 2 hours in the day that no one is home for them.

Danny and I will have to get use not seing eachother except every second weekends. And the step kids wil have to learn to put up with me or get out of the house during the day.

If I keep telling myself "We'll get used to it, we'll get used to it." I might convince myself. In the mean time, where's the bottle of advil?
