Hi,
I recently bought a violet fischer lovie from a breeder. He is about 8-9 weeks old. He is starting to come around. (thanks Linda for the advice, he is trusting me more. The bathrrom thing works great) Now he is getting to be like a toddler. He is starting to bite really hard no matter his mood. He was giving nice kisses at the beginning but now they are starting to hurt. He doesn't seem to know the difference between kisses and playing. I was just wondering how I can get him to know the difference between the nice kissing and the biting. Is it to soon to train him not to bite? He has just started coming to me and follows me all over the house. I want him to give kisses but I don't know how to get him to distinguish between the 2 without scaring him or him losing trust in me.

Here's a link to help explain what's going on with your baby lovie and the biting thing you're describing. Great info and easy to understand!

As you can see, your sweetie isn't biting you to be mean or bad. All of my tamed handled babies go through this stage exactly as you are describing. My best advice is to be consistent and wait it out. It DOES improve as baby learns more about life.
Best of Luck

Thank you very much. I read the info on the site. I think I can get a hold on this biting thing. Glad to know I won't have to wear turtlenecks all summer!!!

Hi, I haven't got my lovebird yet but I do have a parrotlet. When she first started to bite me I read about throwing her a little off balance by moving your hand or finger in a slight rolling movement. She would have to catch herself and would forget about whatever quirk had made her decide to bite. I did have to figure out when she was using her beak on me for balance and climbing. So, try rolling your hand about a quarter turn and see how that works.
