Hi Everyone:wink: ! this is my first post here and hope that you can give me your feedback. I am curious to know how old lovebirds live to. Most everything that I have read says anywhere from 12-25years, is 25 realistic? my vet told me that the oldest lovebird that she ever treated was 16 or so which is not good news since my lovebird is almost 14 which I received as a birthday gift. I would like to know how old some of this boards users lovebirds are.
Thank you

Hi and welcome!
14? That's wonderul and kudos to you for all the great care!! I still have my original pair of Lutino Peachfaces and they are 16 going on 17. I've had them since 1990. The male even successfully underwent surgery to remove a benign tumor from his chest area. The oldest lovebird of which I'm aware died at age 19. Is 25 realistic? Possible, but again, depends on the level of care.

When Ditto first came here and I was looking for info on lovies I found a website that had an ask an avian vet section. One of the questions was about the oldest lovebird. He said the oldest documented lovebird was 30 years old. But I can't find it again.

Dave,
Was the website http://www.toolady.com? She has an Ask the Experts forum and there is an avian vet (Dr. Milt) who answers questions online.

I'm not sure if that was it or not. It was about 3 years ago.

Thank you,
I love my lovebird, I call her my little rat with wings because she gets into evrything, I have been blessed, other than some feather plucking she has been healthy and a great companion.
I only feed her organic fruits and veggies, and only purified water.
p.a. Great Forum!

I adopted my lovie, Oliver, 3 years ago and he is around 10. His care was "lacking" to say the least before I adopted him but he is healthy and in good shape, so his vet says. I hope to have him for another 10 years.......really, I hope to have him forever. :)
