Completely not lovebird related

Steve Irwin died. The Crocodile Hunter. I can't believe it, I loved to watch him, I thought he was great.:cry:

He died Sept.4/06 at 11am (Australia time). He was shooting a documentry and was killed by a stringray barb. The barb went through his heart or chest. Help was called and he was taken by helicopter, but was pronounced dead on the scene.

He has a daughter age 8 and a son age 3.

As crazy as most people think he was (my roommate included), I think he was a great animal lover, and his heart in the right place.

Like someone said to me today, at least he died doing what he loved.

Just thought I would pass this along to other animal lovers.

He had a heckuva personality, yeah, a little wacky, but his love for what he did came across clearly - I feel for his family. A loss for everyone.

Thanks for passing this along. I also loved to watch him. His passion definitely came through for his love and respect of wildlife. There most likely will never be another quiet like him.

But the truely ironic thing is that he wasn't killed by one of the dangerous animals that he put himself in contact with- he was killed by a creature known to be peaceful.

I am deeply, deeply saddened by his death; I've always been a huge fan. And his poor wife- they've been married for 15 years. My heart goes out to her and their two children. :cry:

It's so horrible, and I'm mourning. I've always been a fan and have great respect for what he did. He was quirky, but he was so passionate, and I always admired him. I did want to go to that zoo of his and meet him one day just tell him how great the things he did really are. I told my mom that just weeks ago. :(

A true loss for animal and human kind alike. All we can do is make sure his values linger, that other people will step up and make a stand for the more misunderstood creatures like he always did.

God be with his family and give them comfort in their loss. They're not alone in grieving. And he did die doing what he loved. Educating. Being 'out there' with the animals he loved like his own family.

It is very ironic but the thing was teh stingray i do not think tried to hurt him he just put his tail up when he happened to swim over him at the same time. he dies instantly. The sad part was his daughter was there when it happened

His daughter wasn't there. He was filming a piece for her show, but his wife, daughter and son were somewhere else.

Thanks goodness...that would have been terrible.

It's been on the news here for two days. His wife is originally from Oregon, where she started a wildlife rescue/rehab here.
It's very sad. Granted, he was a little bit "out there" with the crazy behavior, but was very entertaining and got a lot of people interested in creatures that were previously thought of as monsters.

In the many news reports, I read something unusual. It seems there was one animal Steve was frightened of: parrots. He had a run in with his father's parrot when little Steve was just four years old and it almost left him with a severely injured nose.

What is really horrible for his family is that his death was on film and some cruel idiot is sure to get it and put it on the web for his family to see. If I was his widow, I would try to get all of the film and bury it.
