Anyone ever notice that different birds have different smells? When Alex (BFA) gets excited, she emits a fruity smell. Take my macaws outside and they put out an almost musky smell. Wet lovebirds smell odd but dry ones can have very nice fragrances.

It's funny you posed this question. I've always thought that, when wet, Chirpie smells like a little wet dog. I would have never suspected that would be the case.

Yes, Molly smells clean and Piper always smells like he needs a bath. Daisy & Olivia don't have a distinct smell cause I can't hold and smell them like I can Molly & Piper. Hens! I love to smell Molly after he's had a bath and just before he's completely dry. He's a sweet baby :D

I do hear people mention that their birds (I'm tallking lovies) smell sometimes. Maybe it's my sinus trouble but I have never noticed any smell on my three.

My hubby smells better than I do. He says Bela stinks wet, but Lacey smell good, especially dry. He will put his nose in back feathers and breath deeply. He sure does love that little Lacey.

My GCC's do have a bit of a musky odor dry, but wet they smell like wet bird. Not as bad as a wet dog, but a wet animal smell of some sort.

I'm with Janie,
Most of the time, none of my 15 smell either wet or dry. Maybe my sniffer isn't that great.

During molting I've noticed that there is a little musty odor because they are really utilizing their oil glands.

Now the cages..:x ..sometimes that's a different matter especially when there has been a major food fight near the water bowls.

I think Rico has bit of a musky smell. But definately the wet dog smell after a bath. I think he smells great and wonder what he thinks when I sniff his head all the time.
